AMC Networks, Verizon Reach Long-Term Carriage Deal

AMC Networks and telecom giant Verizon late Tuesday reached a new long-term carriage deal for the AMC, IFC, Sundance Channel and We TV channels on Verizon's FiOS pay TV service.

Financial and other terms weren't disclosed.

AMC Networks CEO Josh Sapan has said that the cable channel group has upside in carriage fees given its recent successes with original series, such as AMC's The Walking Dead and Mad Men.

The partners' previous carriage arrangement was set to expire at the end of the year, and some observers worried that the discussions would lead only to a last-minute agreement. While AMC Networks had warned that the 4.5 million FiOS TV homes could lose their networks, things were resolved ahead of the end of the year.

AMC Networks recently also reached new carriage deals with AT&T's U-Verse pay TV service and satellite TV giant Dish Network. The latter deal only came after a long legal battle and Dish's decision to drop the AMC networks as of mid-year.

"We're pleased to continue our successful partnership with Verizon FiOS through a new, long-term agreement for AMC, IFC, Sundance Channel and We TV that recognizes the value of our networks," AMC said. "We look forward to continuing to provide Verizon FiOS customers with some of the most-watched, popular and acclaimed programming on television."
