The 79-year-old "Partridge Family" star recently penned her autobiography, aptly titled "Shirley Jones: a Memoir." And while it's chock full of anecdotes about her wholesome roles in everything from "Oklahoma!" to the beloved 1970s sitcom about the singing family, the book also tells all about Jones's marriage to the late Jack Cassidy, whom she describes as her "sexual Svengali."
Jones goes into detail about her over-sexed life, which included quickie rendezvous in dressing rooms, a threesome with another woman, and the naked truth on her escapades with current hubby Marty Ingels.
Kind of gives new meaning to "I Think I Love You."
Not that she didn't give us fair warning. Last year the actress gave a statement about the book project with this heads up: "Anyone expecting the 'All-American mom,' Shirley Partridge, should be ready for a few jolts."
Consider us jolted. In an interview with Theater Jones, the Oscar-winning actress dished, "There are a lot of tales I probably wouldn't have told when I was 18, or 20, or even 30, but that I'm telling now -- a lot about my first husband Jack, about his problems, and how I got into the business, and a lot about the gorgeous movie stars I worked with."
Of course, Shirley isn't alone when it comes to TV moms' shocking tell-alls. Just ask the Brady kids.
"Brady Bunch" mom Florence Henderson's 2011 memoir, "Life Is Not a Stage," detailed a secret life of sex, infidelity, and STDs. Yes, Mrs. Brady gave us TMI about her alleged affair in the 1960s with New York City mayor John Lindsay when she wrote about cheating on her real-life husband, Ira Bernstein: "I was lonely. I knew it wasn't the right thing to do," she wrote. "Guess I learned the hard way that crabs do not discriminate but cross over all socioeconomic strata."
On the bright side, the politician sent her an apology note and flowers. But this was no Brady storyline, that's for sure, and it was one of several bombshells from the "Brady Bunch" matriarch.
Watch Florence Henderson as Carol Brady:
In the 1980s, TV mom Meredith Baxter starred on the hit sitcom "Family Ties" by day, but her real-life nightlife was no laughing matter. In her book "Untied: A Memoir of Family, Fame and Floundering," she described a life that included alleged abuse by her former husband, and heavy drinking binges that included on-set cocktails while taping her Emmy-winning sitcom. (She even confessed to driving home from the NBC set with a tumbler of wine between her legs.) And this TV mom had another secret: She was a lesbian, who didn't come out publicly until 2009.
After she told all, her ex-husband David Birney told People that the book was "an appalling abuse of the truth," describing it as "a kind of fairy tale."
Still, here's a story: In what can only be described as a bizarre TV mom twist, Baxter actually dated Shirley Jones's TV son (and real-life stepson) David Cassidy back in the '70s. Now those are some serious family ties!
