Bachelor Party Problems: 'The Big Bang Theory' Episode 5.22 Recap

With the latest episode of "The Big Bang Theory," fans of the show finally got a little taste of the potential problems that Howard and Bernadette will face on their way to the altar. In the season's 22nd episode "The Stag Convergence," the revelation of Howard's sordid past caused Bernadette to rethink the idea of becoming his wife. A sweet statement from Howard won her over in the end, and all seems to be back on track. Will this be the last complication between the two before the wedding? That remains to be seen with a couple of episodes left.

    Howard's past bites him

During a drunken bachelor party toast, Raj reveals a series of past sexual encounters involving Howard. There were stories about hookers in Las Vegas, as well as one about a strange threesome with Raj and another woman. Viewers have long known about Howard and his deviant behavior, but apparently Bernadette wasn't aware of it. That causes some major problems when footage of Raj's speech found its way online courtesy of Wil Wheaton, who returned for another great guest appearance. Upon viewing the speech online, Bernadette's anger boils over to the point where she thinks about breaking things off. Howard eventually tells Penny about how he is a changed man, and that he is just as disgusted by his past behavior as Bernadette is. Fortunately for him, Bernadette overhears everything, and the wedding is back on track…at least for now.

    Drunk Sheldon returns

This episode was pretty light on Sheldon compared to the standard, but he made his screen time count. During the bachelor party, Sheldon gets drunk since it fits the social convention. That leads to him giving a mean-spirited toast that actually had some funny jokes. Sheldon is always great when he accidentally seems normal. It seems getting drunk is the key that makes that happen. The other highlight for Sheldon comes when he is jealous over the fact that rival-turned-friend Wil Wheaton is also friends with Howard. Could this mean that Wheaton is going to be Sheldon's enemy once again? Knowing how his brain operates, that is a pretty safe assumption.

A small glimpse into the relationship of Leonard and Penny

It isn't talked about very often on the show, but Leonard and Penny are still dating. There were a few scenes between the two, and they mostly involved Penny making fun of her boyfriend. Leonard seems upset at the fact that Penny isn't jealous of the upcoming bachelor party. He tries to convince her that he has done some crazy things, and seems to think that a passionate encounter in the ocean especially makes the grade. After realizing that Penny doesn't feel the same way, Leonard fails in trying to romance her in the laundry room. The two are definitely a couple, but "The Big Bang Theory" isn't in any rush to make a big deal about it.
