Desiree Hartsock -- the 26-year-old bridal stylist who fell hard for "The Bachelor" star Sean Lowe on last season's incarnation of the show -- is the series' latest rose-toting heartbreaker. But what do fans know about Des, besides the fact that she has a really protective brother? (More on that in a minute.)
Here are five things to know about the newest "Bachelorette."
She's a designing woman.
The Katie Holmes lookalike recently posed for some pretty promo pictures that show her donning a one-of-a-kind designer dress made of roses, but in "real" life, Des is a designer in her own right. Her Twitter page reveals she has worked as a designer for Serenity Bridal and Kiyonna. After a show for the plus-size clothing collection, Des said, "It's such a pleasure when you get to work with a model that can really project the mood of the collection and make the styles come alive."
Her alma mater boasts some famous alums.
Speaking of design, Desiree is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in California. Other alums of the prestigious design school include Juicy Couture co-founder Pamela Skaist, "Project Runway" winner Leanne Marshall, and "The Hills" star Lauren Conrad, who attended classes at the school while filming her MTV show. A blog on the school's website states Des "hopes to one day be a bridal gown designer and open her own boutique."
She likes inspirational books.
According to her ABC bio, Des's favorite book is "Eat, Pray, Love," because "it's a personal journey of overcoming and finding love and happiness along the way." But it's not far-fetched to assume that Des also likes the Bible. She's a devout Christian, and her Twitter and Instagram pages are filled with quotes from Scripture. In a recent tweet, Des wrote:
She doesn't blame her brother for ruining her relationship with Sean Lowe.
Des's brother, Nate, made headlines after he called Sean Lowe "a playboy" and voiced his disapproval of his sister's made-for-TV love connection during last season's hometown date. In an interview with Reality TV World, Des explained that while she's "not very close" with her brother, she did have his back after his on-camera confrontation with Sean. "My brother actually said those things because he doesn't agree with TV, and he doesn't believe in reality TV. So, that's so far from what he really is about," she said. After her bro's bashing by "Bachelor" fans, Des took to Twitter to defend him, writing:
She wants a marriage like her parents.
According to ABC, Desiree's family moved a lot during her childhood (she even revealed to Sean Lowe that she has lived in a tent!), but her parents stayed together through thick and thin. "The Bachelorette" star's parents have been married for 40 years, and she yearns to find a lifelong love like theirs. With 25 hunky bachelors to choose from, it looks like she's got a good head start!
"The Bachelorette" Season 9 premieres on Monday, 5/27 at 8 PM ET on ABC.
