LONDON – The BBC has appointed former the public broadcaster's former director of news Tony Hall as its new director general.
Currently the CEO of the Royal Opera House, Hall will take up the position as soon as possible.
BBC Trust chairman Lord Patten described Hall as "the right person to lead the BBC out of its current crisis".
The appointment follows the shock resignation of George Entwistle earlier this month after just 54 days in the job.
Entwistle quit Nov. 10 in the evening after a Newsnight report led to a veteran politician being wrongly accused of child abuse.
The announcement of Hall's appointment came Thursday lunchtime.
