"Mad Men" newcomer Ben Feldman impressed the right critics. After his first season, he landed an Emmy nomination for his role as the new adman in town, Michael Ginsberg. He told Yahoo! about his award-show expectations and his extracurricular interests…
What Emmy moment are you looking forward to most?
I am looking forward to the glass of scotch and the sweatpants afterwards. I'm excited, but it is a very daunting thing. I am on a show where people are used to this stuff. They know how to do it. They find out this news and then go to sleep afterwards. This is like a heart attack for me, constantly.
Who gave you the best advice on how to handle it?
No one gave me any advice whatsoever. It is funny when you are on a show with all these talented people who are so often recognized for their talent. So they just assume, "Well, of course you are nominated…you are one of us. It is just a thing that happens. Welcome to the group." There [were] no "Daniel-san" moments with advice from the cast.
Any fancy gifts to congratulate you?
I got a lot of booze for the congratulations from AMC and Lionsgate. The cast sent a lot of emails and called.
How will you prepare?
I think I will have a scotch beforehand. I am just going to drink my way through the Emmys (laughs). I am going to the gym and sleeping in and then putting on a tux and going to the show.
Who gets your extra ticket?
I will bring my lucky date, my girlfriend, who is about to get her Masters in design and architecture.
Any words of wisdom to take you through the night?
I got the "It's going to be hot -- wear an undershirt" speech.
