Better after the divorce: TV characters who stay friendly after they split

When marriages go sour, things can get really nasty. But every once in a while, two people discover that after the marriage is over and the divorce is final, they actually get along great with their former spouse. Here are some examples of TV characters who became (or stayed) good friends after they got divorced from each other.

Detective Batista and Lieutenant LaGuerta, "Dexter"

Angel Batista and Maria LaGuerta got married at the end of Season 4 after spending most of the season in a secret relationship because Maria was his superior. However, their marriage is shown to be a rocky one during Season 5, with Maria being too domineering and Angel drinking too much. By the time Season 6 rolls around, the two are divorced and LaGuerta has been promoted to captain. However, the two continue to work well together and remain friendly.

Fraiser Crane and Lilith Sternin, "Frasier"

While Lilith does have a nasty habit of showing up unannounced and scaring Fraiser, the two are shown to be very caring for one another after the divorce. Frasier has been seen calling Lilith for relationship advice, and Lilith has been shown to rely heavily on Frasier when her personal life gets rocky. Living on opposite sides of the country helps them to remain on good terms.

    Dave and Alex, "Happy Endings"

Technically, Dave and Alex aren't divorced. That's because they never got married: Alex left Dave at the altar. But because they share so many friends, the two agree to stay on good terms so that their friends don't have to pick sides.

    Dr. Cox and Jordan, "Scrubs"

Being divorced doesn't mean you stop being romantically involved with your ex. In the case of Jordan and Dr. Cox, their relationship became practically perfect after the divorce. In fact, when they learn that a clerical error has left them technically married, they throw a divorce ceremony, and invite all their friends to come and see them get officially unhitched, just to maintain the status quo.

Rick Castle and Meredith (and Gina Cowell), "Castle"

Twice-divorced Rick Castle actually gets along pretty well with both his exes. His first wife Meredith is the mother of Alexis, but is very immature and has only shown up for one episode so far. More involved in Rick's life is his second ex-wife, Gina Cowell, who acts as his publisher and PR maven. Rick and Gina tried to rekindle their romance at the end of Season 2, but by the middle of Season 3, Castle breaks it off with her.
