On Tuesday May 1, Jeremy Britt became the thirteenth "Biggest Loser," dropping 199 lbs and over 51% of his body weight. To gain the title he had to beat two contestants - former professional wrestler Kim Nielsen and his own sister Conda Britt. This season Jeremy and Conda joined a very elite group of "BL" players, becoming one of only three sets of siblings to make it to the top. Here's a look at the Britts, and the other brother and sister teams, that had success on "The Biggest Loser."
Jeremy Britt and Conda Britt - Season 13
After a long season filled with twists and turns, Jeremy Britt finally landed his spot in the top three of Season 13. He had actually been eliminated in the second to last week of competition, but came back to win a grueling, and much contested, challenge to earn a spot in the finale. Although his sister lost 115 lbs and almost 40% of her total body weight, Jeremy crushed her on the scales.
In a recent conference call interview, he said that was his intention from the start and that it was not hard going against his sister in the finale. He said, "It wasn't difficult at all. Me and my sister are competitive in everything we do… She wants to win. I want to win. But obviously if one of us wins, it's a pretty good thing. I wanted to beat her, and I wasn't going to take it easy on her at all." He added with a slight glint of sarcasm, "I wanted to destroy her."
When asked what he learned about his sister, he replied, "That if I have to share a room with her for six months, I want to go insane." But in all seriousness, Jeremy was thrilled to have had the chance to take this journey side-by-side with his sister. "Conda didn't ever play sports... but when she wants to be competitive, she knew how to do it, and she definitely knew how to be successful here… I told her right in the beginning, when we first got picked, 'I wouldn't want to do the show with anybody else other than you. So I'm glad that it's me and you getting to share this together.'"
Olivia Ward and Hannah Curlee - Season 11
In Season 11 of "The Biggest Loser," sisters Olivia Ward and Hannah Curlee made it all the way to the finals together. They were neck and neck the whole journey, trading off challenge wins and weight loss milestones. In the end their final numbers were just 9 lbs. apart and Ward beat Curlee by only 1% of body weight (losing 49.4% to Curlee's 48.4%).
In a conference call interview after her win, Ward stated, "I had a feeling that it was going to be a photo finish, which it ended up being, but we had no idea exactly which way it was going to go."
Ward admitted the healthy competition propelled them all the way through the experience. "It was always one of those things that we came in together but at the same time it was like, 'She's never just going to let me win anything, and I'm never just going to let her win anything either.' It's always good, healthy sibling rivalry."
The sisters loved their journey together. Ward declared, "To share this with her has been one of the biggest gifts that I received at 'The Biggest Loser.'"
Bill and Jim Germanakos - Season 4
Although brothers Bill and Jim Germanakos did not make it to the final three together, they both ended the season as winners. The twins were separated in week five when Jim was eliminated. Bill stayed on the ranch and pretty much dominated the competition. It was no surprise to anyone that he lost 164 lbs. and 49% of his body weight to claim the title. But what was more unexpected was that his twin brother returned to the finale after working the rest of the season on his own and took the at-home prize by dropping 186 lbs. and 51.5% of his bodyweight. Had he stayed on the ranch, he would have beaten his brother for first place. Instead they both went home winners and have been spreading the word about healthy living and weight loss ever since.
Season 14 of "The Biggest Loser" will premiere in September of 2012.
