Borowitz Report Moves to New Yorker Site

The Borowitz Report has come to The New Yorker.

The Condé Nast-owned magazine announced Wednesday that it acquired the Borowitz Report, a satirical news blog by comedian Andy Borowitz.

The blog is featured on the humor page of NewYorker.com, alongside "Shouts & Murmurs" essays and a new "Daily Shouts" humorist section.

"Longtime Borowitz Report readers might ask: how will moving to The New Yorker, known for its excruciating fact-checking, change the Borowitz Report, which is composed entirely of lies?" Borowitz wrote in his introductory post Wednesday morning.

"The answer: not at all. The Borowitz Report will be inaccurate as always, and if I ever write something that turns out to be true you have my deepest apology and my promise that it won't happen again."

The Borowitz Report began in 2001, after Borowitz -- a top graduate from Harvard, where he was president of the Harvard Lampoon -- began emailing farcical news stories to his friends. By 2003, traffic to the site was in the millions and he was featured in a page one Wall Street Journal story.

In 2008, when Borowitz was blogging for the Huffington Post, the Daily Beast called him "America's satire king."

This isn't the first time Borowitz's bylines are gracing the weekly. He has written for the New Yorker since 1998 and won the first-ever National Press Club award for humor.

For Borowitz, rarely reverent in his writing, joining the magazine as a columnist sparked some sentimentality at the end of his post.

"My mom, Helen Borowitz, who died this month at the age of 85, loved The New Yorker all her life and introduced me to it when I was a little boy," he wrote. "Seeing the Borowitz Report at The New Yorker would have made her so happy. I dedicate all my columns to her memory."
