Brandy on Whitney Houston's Death: "My Heart Is Destroyed"

Brandy spent the evening of her 33rd birthday in tears.

Earlier that afternoon, the singer and actress' longtime inspiration and mentor Whitney Houston passed away suddenly at the age of 48. Though Brandy attended Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammys bash, the somber star told Us Weekly she "really wanted to perform" that night, "but I'm in a bad space right now."

On Monday, Brandy decided to publicly pay tribute to the six-time Grammy Award winner. "My heart is destroyed. I lost my idol and dear friend. My prayers go out to Whitney's family and her millions of fans around the world," Brandy told Us in a statement. "Whitney -- the greatest voice of all time -- you are my angel and I will always and forever love you."

The two women starred in the mega-successful TV remake of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella in 1997; it was the No. 1 program of the week, with more than 60 million viewers.

Houston's body is expected to be flown back east for a rumored funeral in Newark, New Jersey, where she was born in 1963. The "So Emotional" singer is believed to have overdosed on a lethal combination of prescription pills and alcohol in her Beverly Hilton hotel room. She is survived by her daughter, Bobbi Kristina, 18, and her mother, Cissy.

WOW! Very poignant words, Brandy! I am sooooo... sorry WH is no longer with us! I am heartbroken & deeply saddened, by her UNTIMELY death! This time her body will RIP! It hurts the very fiber of my being, this was the only way this ICONIC Soopa- Doopa star couuld get the much needed rest & peace, she has been longing for, for decades!

So sad ... now, is the family going to try and find the doctor that prescribed the 'prescription drugs' to Houston?!? That MD should also be handled the way MJ's doctor was handled. Writing a scrip to someone who has history of abuse is just as bad as administering what the patient wants!!! Another double standard to go by...oh my.

  I agree. Most people are ignorant of the accumulated ill-effects of any substance. What it does to the brain, the liver, and other organs. The reports are just emerging of even the harmfull effects of too many vitamins and minerals. When a person is high risk they will lie, cheat and try to bribe a doctor to give them what they want. Dr Murray was so incompetent. His first response when he first met with MJ should have been to call another doctor, and discuss what MJ was asking, and have that other doctor, or a team of doctors come and educate Mj on the reasons why he could not have what he wanted. perhaps MJ might have been declared incompetent then, and a team of addiction specialists help him.
  the same with WH. The same with anybody. doctors need to be held accountable, absolutely.

Okay, now Brandy get on board with Music Cares and do something to prevent this from happening to another person.

also, use your money and influence to get doctors from dispensing medications in quanitity to high risk persons. Even if a person has to go to a pharmacy or clinic every day to get their medication it might save a life.

Uh hello folks...NOT A THING has been confirmed or reported the Whitney overdosed on any lethal amts of anything..US magazine had no business even printing that. Obviously, a magazine like the Enquirer. Get the fact before printing people. Geez..as if this family isn't going through enough already to have to put up with your rumors & speculations spreading like a wildfire..no wonder US is such an unreliable source.
