The TV landscape is littered with characters who are always brave in the face of dangerous situations. But on rare occasions, these seemingly brave characters lose their cool in the face of their greatest fears. Like Indiana Jones freaking out when he sees a snake, these brave characters are easily undone when they face off against their greatest fears.
Sandor, "Game of Thrones"
Sandor "The Hound" Clegane is known for his blend of ruthlessness and loyalty. He's quite a fearsome, brave figure. However, he does have an underlying fear that proves to be his undoing in the episode "Blackwater." When the battlefield is engulfed by flames, Sandor runs away.
It's a very dishonorable thing to do, but it is still understandable. After half of his face was burned off by his older brother while still a child, Sandor has a reasonable fear of fire. And given the fact that many fires on "Game of Thrones" are caused by magic, his fear is doubly understandable.
Sterling Archer, "Archer"
The handsome master spy at the center of this FX animated comedy is considered one of the greatest spies of his generation. He's fearless in the face of danger, even when he's massively outgunned and unable to call for backup. But he completely freaks out when exposed to his top two greatest fears: alligators and crocodiles. He compulsively researches and memorizes the location of every gator attack in the U.S., and completely loses his cool when an alligator attacks his boat in the bayou.
Archer has a third fear: brain aneurysms, which could kill him at any time. This fear doesn't seem to affect his job performance too much, but maybe that fear of death is why he drinks so much.
Charles Gunn, "Angel"Gunn is one of the bravest characters on "Angel." He's a streetwise "urban Robin Hood" who isn't afraid to take on a vampire on his own. But while he was never afraid when fighting a vampire that could kill him, Gunn did have one crippling fear: rats.
First mentioned in Season 3, Gunn's fear of rats is shown in great detail. When the oncoming apocalypse causes the walls of one house to fill with rats in Season 4, Gunn was terrified. In fact, that terror was made all the more real because the actor who played Gunn is also terrified of rats in real life.
