Now that "Breaking Bad" has been renewed for a final season (to be split into two parts), there are some serious considerations that the show needs to make, considering how it left things at the end of last season. Though Walt has been the focus of many of the stories so far, here are some characters whose arcs and development will help to make this last two-part season stand out.
Skyler
If anyone has shown her mettle these last few seasons, it has been Skyler, who has revealed time and again that she can be just as ruthless as Walt. Indeed, she is just as complex, if not more so, as her husband, and as a result has become one of the most fascinating characters the show has yet produced. Now that Walt has manage to vanquish his deadliest enemy, the time is ripe for Skyler to take a more powerful and center role in the series, so hopefully her talents and her presence will be fully utilized in this final season.
Marie and Hank
At times humorous, and at times deadly and dangerous, Marie and Hank have also been revealed as fascinating characters with their own issues, baggage, and emotional complexities. With Hank drawing ever closer to uncovering the truth about Walt and Marie continuing to have her own suspicions and mental issues, both of these characters, and the relationship between them, could make for some very interesting viewing in the final episodes of this edgy and emotionally riveting drama.
Walter Jr.
Although he has been in the show all along, Walter Jr. has occupied something of a background role, always present but never taking center-stage. Now is the time for that to change, and some of us would like to see him get some storylines of his own. Since he is very nearly an adult, this seems like a very real possibility, so it will be interesting to see what the series writers decide to do with his character and how he will interact with his father and his mother in the final season.
There is, certainly, a lot to look forward to in the final climactic episodes of this series. As "Breaking Bad" has shown time and again, its primary strength is in its powerful and dynamic characters, and there can be no doubt that it will continue this trend through the final season, bringing out the best and the worst in its diverse cast.
