Fans of the Fox drama "Bones" received quite a happy little surprise ending at the end of the season finale in May. The show had hinted in a previous episode that FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) and his forensic anthropologist partner, Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel), hooked up one night in an emotionally charged evening of passion. Yet the show kept the actual love scene from our prying eyes, and fans were left wondering.
We didn't have to be curious for too long, though, because in the season finale, after Brennan and Booth visited Angela and Hodgins in the hospital to help them welcome their new son into the world, Brennan surprised Booth and fans alike with the news that she was carrying Booth's baby.
In real life, Emily Deschanel is pregnant, and was actually concealing her growing baby bump with the help of special camera tricks and baggy clothing during the last few episodes of the show. Obviously Deschanel is far more pregnant than her TV personality. To account for this, the producers plan to do a time jump of a few months when the new season picks up. This is pretty common for shows to do between a season finale and a season premiere.
Shooting of the new season's episodes is scheduled to start in a few weeks, just as Deschanel is entering her third trimester. The show will fast forward a few months so that Brennan is also in her third trimester in the fall. The "Bones" season premiere will air on Nov. 3; there will be six episodes before the show takes a winter hiatus, which will coincide with Deschanel's maternity leave.
Fans of "Bones" just can't wait to see what a Brennan-Booth baby will look like, if these two will come together as a family, or if they will opt to retain their separate lives and raise the baby with shared custody. Brennan, after all, isn't big on domestic bliss, and Booth is somewhat jaded after his divorce and his more recent marriage proposal gone bad.
So will Brennan have her baby sometime in those six episodes, or will the show shoot ahead a few episodes so that Brennan's pregnancy on the show can be extended? There's no word yet, so we will have to wait and see!
You can catch the latest episodes of "Bones" on Fox on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.
