Fans of "The Office" may be sad that they have to wait until this fall for new episodes, but fans of Brian Baumgartner's character Kevin had some solace. Baumgartner had a small but pivotal role in the FX comedy "Wilfred," appearing the Season 2 premiere as an orderly that helps Ryan escape from the hospital (and turns out to be none other than Wilfred the dog in disguise).
The episode served as a great reminder that Brian Baumgartner is a great comedic talent who lights up the screen in every role. While "The Office" is on its summer hiatus, why not catch up on some of Brian Baumgartner's best non-"Office" roles?
Vampire Ghost, " Adventure Time"
The animated series "Adventure Time" is targeted toward kids, but like the recent "My Little Pony" series, it has found a passionate following among adults, as well. Brian Baumgartner appeared in the episode "Heat Signature" as a vampire ghost named Georgy who has a bit of a mean streak.
Bob Jansen, "The Last Push"
This film follows an astronaut who must make a three-year journey back to Earth in solitude. Baumgartner does great work playing the helpless ground control communications officer who has the arduous task of helping the young astronaut stay sane on his isolated journey back home. If you only know Brian Baumgartner as Kevin on "The Office," his work in this sci-fi film showcases dramatic talents you might not be aware of.
Jim, "License to Wed"
You might have missed this Robin Williams comedy while it was in theaters, but it's worth a watch if you love "The Office." In addition to a performance by Brian Baumgartner, you can also catch "The Office" stars John Krasinski, Mindy Kaling, and Angela Kinsey, plus a solid performance by Mandy Moore.
Honorable Mention: Kevin's Loan (An "Office" Webisode Series)
This is meant to be a list of non-"Office" roles, but it's worth mentioning this webisode series since many fans have overlooked the non-televised webisodes. That's a shame, because they're generally quite good. In fact, In June 2007, Baumgartner won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Broadband Program -- Comedy, for his work on an "Office" webisode series called "The Accountants."
In the "Kevin's Loan" series from 2008, Kevin needs a way to make some money to pay back some gambling debts. He tries to get a loan from the bank, claiming he wants to start an ice cream business called "Malone's Cones." Hijinks ensue.
