"Broadchurch" has already been greenlit for a Season 2 in the U.K., and Fox has plans to remake the series for U.S. audiences. Here's everything you need to know about the premiere in order to stay ahead of the curve.
Big British stars
"Broadchurch" features a ton of famous faces, including David Tennant of "Doctor Who" fame as Alec Hardy and Olivia Colman of "Rev." and "Green Wing" as Ellie Miller. Tennant is famous as the Doctor on "Doctor Who," a series that Colman also appeared on. The "Doctor Who" connection has a lot to do with series creator Chris Chibnall, who wrote for "Doctor Who" before creating "Broadchurch."
There's more than one mystery
The primary mystery at the center of "Broadchurch" revolves around the death of Danny Lattimer, age 11. When Danny's body is found on the beach, Detective Inspector Alec Hardy (Tennant) and Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller (Colman) quickly discover that the boy's death was no accident.
Danny's death is the big "whodunit" of the season, but there are other mysteries that are just as interesting. The premiere hints that there's some big scandal in Hardy's past that has to do with "Sanbrook." If that scandal gets out, it could be a major problem.
Everyone's a suspect
Everyone in the town is a potential killer and guessing who killed Danny is going to drive viewers crazy. Danny's dad won't tell his wife where he was the night before Danny's body was found, which, obviously, is a big red flag.
Another suspect is Olly, a local journalist who is also Ellie Miller's nephew. In the premiere, fans learned that Olly had been trying to break into writing for the big city newspapers but had been rejected at every turn. When Olly breaks the news about Danny's death, he gets on the radar of the Daily Herald. Could Olly have killed Danny to jumpstart his journalism career?
There's another suspicious person in town: Danny's best friend Tom, who just happens to be Ellie's son. When Ellie tells Tom about Danny's death, Tom deletes all texts to Danny on his phone and all files on his computer. If Danny's phone shows up, then maybe fans will learn what Tom was trying to hide.
