Brooke released a video in early November on her ModernMom blog announcing that she'd been diagnosed with a cancerous growth on her thyroid gland. She explained that a nodule was discovered during a routine exam and after a series of tests, doctors determined the growth to be cancerous and her thyroid would have to be removed.

She promised to keep posting updates on her blog in the coming weeks to keep fans informed about her post-surgery progress and the ways she and her family are dealing with the recovery. "What a crazy time, but I am surrounded with love and support and that really makes a world of difference," she wrote on Facebook. "Thank you for following me and for all your thoughts and prayers. I feel it, truly, and your energy outweighs my stress!"
