Cary Agos and Kalinda Sharma have a connection. They are friends. Yet, they are more than friends. You can see it in their eyes when they talk to each other and you can see it in their body language. More than once Cary has hinted that he wanted more out of this relationship with Kalinda. However, she has always backed away from him.
He began to think he had no chance with her, especially when he learned that she had relationships with women and one woman in particular. This is one reason he began noticing Dana.
Dana works with him in the State's Attorney's office. She is passionate about her job and she is tough. She is also an ethnic woman. She hears that Cary has a thing for ethnic women and confronts him on this issue. He states that it isn't true. They have a brief conversation about this issue and then they kiss.
Cary seems to like Dana. She has many of the beliefs that he does. She is also as ambitious as he is. However, one wonders if he can put his feelings for Kalinda aside.
Then a case begins. The case is another one which puts Kalinda close to the State's Attorney's office. She needs from someone inside the office to help prove a man is innocent of murder and to help prove who the actual murderer is. When she arrives at their offices, Cary, her usual go to man, is busy. She runs into Dana and asks her for help.
Dana tells her that she will help her if she gets help in return. Dana wants evidence that will help show that Will Garnder, Kalinda's boss, stole funds from his first law firm. Kalinda says she doesn't know if she can help.
Cary is not happy about the women have any sort of interactions. He seems jealous, in fact. He asks Dana what is going on between the two of them. She promptly tells him that she isn't a lesbian and she has no feelings for Kalinda. She also wonders what his feelings are.
Cary then steps in and helps Kalinda. The real murderer is found. In the process, Cary and Kalinda are caught in a gunfire. When the bullets start flying, Cary pulls Kalinda to the ground and falls on top of her to protect her. Neither is hurt. Yet, Cary is shaken up a lot. Is it because of the bullets or the nearness of Kalinda?
They go back to his office. They talk. Cary tells her that he wants her out of her head. She tells him to take her out of it. They draw closer together. Then they finally kiss. He looks into her eyes, wipes a lock of her away from her face. Then suddenly he walks out of the office, leaving her alone.
Who will Cary choose now that it looks like he may actually have a chance with Kalinda?
