The Season 4 finale of "Castle" was a beautiful, emotional triumph for viewers, and a satisfying conclusion of love.
Heart of the matter
Mystery novelist Richard "Rick" Castle and NYPD detective Kate Beckett are partners, friends, and the heart of the show. While other storylines were solid, the focus is Kate and Rick.
As Beckett continued her quest to find her mother's killer, she creates tension at the 12th Precinct and between her and Castle. In a pivotal scene, Rick tells Kate: "…I'm more than a partner. Every morning I bring you a cup of coffee just so I can see a smile on your face because I think you are the most remarkable, maddening, challenging, frustrating person I've ever met. And I love you, Kate, and if that means anything to you, if you care about me at all, just don't do this."
Violent confrontation
Despite Rick's warnings, Kate moves forward with the investigation. A violent confrontation between Beckett, Detective Esposito, and would-be assailant Maddox ends with Esposito knocked unconscious, Kate clinging to the side of a building, and Maddox's escape. Meanwhile, Kate's mystery man protector, Mr. Smith, has apparently been murdered.
The Kiss
With the case a failure, Kate resigns then heads over to Rick's home. At last, the moment fans have longed to see! Kate pours out her emotions, saying the killer got away and she almost died, but all she could think about was Rick. When the two share a passionate kiss, the walls that surrounded them suddenly crumble.
Season 5 is to pick up with Beckett and Castle's "the morning after." Will they be a couple or was it just a fling? Also, the murder investigation of Kate's mother continues, opening the door to intriguing possibilities for "Castle" lovers everywhere.
