The temps were super steamy as the stars walked the red carpet on Sunday night, so it's no wonder that "Project Runway's" Tim Gunn started the night by tweeting, "Everyone looks so hot, as in temperature…"
And that was just the beginning of the evening's star-studded tweets as the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards got under way in Los Angeles.
Early in the evening, it was all in the family for ABC's "Modern Family" when actress Julie Bowen tweeted this message to her co-star and Supporting Comedy Actress rival: "Good luck @SofiaVergara! You are crazy talented and deserve some hardware!" (Bowen ended up taking the Emmy, but it's the thought that counts!)
But what about tweets during the show itself?
"Big Bang Theory" actress Mayim Bialik didn't exactly hide her disappointment over losing to Bowen in the Supporting Comedy Actress category. She tweeted, "I knew it. There's always next year." (Insert sad emoticon here.)
Never one to mince words, outspoken comedian Retta gave her two cents via tweet when her "Parks and Recreation" co-star Amy Poehler lost to Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the Best Comedy Actress category. "You SEE!!! THIS is why Amy deserves the Emmy!! That b***h is hilarious. I'm not even calling it the #Emmys anymore. I wanna win the #Amy!"
When "Dancing With the Stars" host Tom Bergeron won his first-ever Emmy for Best Reality Show Host, "DWTS" all-stars competitor Kirstie Alley couldn't resist getting a dig in at her big-headed pro partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who once declared that the hit dancing competition was "his" show.
"NOW who's show is it @MaksimC ?????? Tom just won an EMMY!!!!!!!!" Alley tweeted.
Ever the multi-tasker, Emmy host Jimmy Kimmel even found time to tweet throughout the show and wreak some social networking havoc in the process.
In addition to tweeting out gems like "Ryan Seacrest is super fat in person" and "Julianne Moore brought her cats. Not cool. #emmys #allergic" (leave it to Kimmel to make even a hashtag hilarious!), the Twitter-happy host made good on a previous promise that he planned to pull "the biggest prank ever" as emcee of the show.
Kimmel encouraged everyone to go on online and tweet that comedian Tracy Morgan suddenly passed out onstage at the Primetime Emmys. Morgan played along for good measure, volunteering to lay on the stage, and pretend to be out cold.
"Tune into ABC!" Kimmel and his cohorts urged their followers, who proceeded to tweet the fake update. Rita Wilson, Stephen Colbert, and Rosie O'Donnell were just a few celebs who retweeted the prank, which quickly became a trending topic on Twitter and instantly spawned more than 25,000 tweets.
