Charlie Sheen quiets down some after manic spring

NEW YORK (AP) — Charlie Sheen says his life's a lot calmer now.

The actor and former star of CBS' "Two and a Half Men" told NBC's Matt Lauer that he didn't really know what happened this spring when he was fired from the show and began a manic round of media appearances talking about his "tiger blood" and "winning." Lauer's interview will air on the "Today" show on Friday, and NBC released excerpts on Wednesday.

"It was one of those things where the planets were aligned, perfectly or imperfectly. I said some stuff and then it caught such traction globally and instantly that I couldn't really put out the fire," Sheen said. "I had to keep fueling it."

Sheen said the experience "was like being shot out of a cannon into another cannon and then being just shot out of that one. It was like from one moment to the next I didn't know what was going to happen. It was pretty exciting."

The actor said he was sober but couldn't tell Lauer the last time he took drugs or drank. He said he didn't believe in keeping track of the sober time because "if you're walking around hanging on to your time, it's only a matter of time before it goes."

Now he says he's reconnecting with his children — Cassandra with former girlfriend Paula Profit, Sam and Lola with actress Denise Richards, and twins, Bob and Max, with ex-wife Brooke Mueller — and appreciating the quiet things in life.

"That's where the life is, you know, it's in those quiet moments," he said. "It's not the giant TV deal or the big party or the award or whatever; it's the memory of your child's smile at the end of the day that sort of brings that one lonesome tear."

Sheen is also appearing Thursday on the "Tonight" show. His re-emergence coincides with the airing of a Comedy Central roast of him Monday, the same day that Ashton Kutcher debuts as Sheen's replacement on "Two and a Half Men."

Who cares anymore about Sheen, he's pulled his tricks, and got replaced, lost his income, and for the time being has a decent relationship with his tribe of children and x's and girlfriends. Don't think he'll ever be the star of anything for a long time. I wish Men good luck, and I guess we'll all wait and see if it's a success or not.

I love the show. A house full of disfunction make it easy to see bits and pieces of it in your own life. Charlie was the foundation and then he blew it away. I do not think the show will survive without him but I have to admit I am excited about seeing what these creative folks do with what is left. I cannot imadgin them making it better or even as good but boy, what a wonder story that would be if they do. TV history in the making. Go for it and let the chips fall where they may.

Charlie Sheen is a very talented actor and I've always enjoyed his movies. Whether or not he has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, all of the markers are there. Last spring, it appeared as though he was self medicating on alcohol and drugs which is very common amongst people who are bipolar and contributed to his so-called meltdown. The press does not need to ridicule this talented actor but they do need to encourage him to seek treatment because this does not get better without the proper medication. Seeking treatment does not mean he is weak. It means he has wised up and decided to take charge of his mental health. I wish him all of the best.

LOL. Markers. Markers you discern from the TV set and press clippings? Who do you think you are...Dr. Phil? Cocaine and booze MAKES you bi-polar, tri-polar, polar bear and 12 other poles!

I wish the best for Charlie. Bipolar illness can kill you and I hope he gets medication because he will need it. He is in my prayers.

Sheen is still in denial of the psychotic break he had and still very much in need of therapy. It won't be long until he's "winning" again and this time he might win himself to death.

      I'll explain his meltdown: He's an a(*)sshole.

THERE IS A GUY THAT COULD NOT APPRECIATE WHAT HE HAD. NO GRATITUDE WHAT SO EVER. HE DESERVES WHAT HE GOT. SHOULD HAVE KEPT HIS BIG MOUTH SHUT. NEVER BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU REGARDLESS OF HOW GREAT YOU THINK YOU ARE. GUESS WHAT, YOU WEREN'T!!!

This guy had it all; "and he did" not only did he think he had it all, he thought we should bow down to him for acting for us--He had way too much $$$ money to spend on what ever drug he was hopped on, could have been coke, crack, or God only knows what. Charlee Sheen is a "Douche" I have no respect for the way he has acted! He still can't be honest with his audience and say "I Charlie Sheen am a addict"...lol...look at our politicians....xo..sorry peoploe :)

      1. He's an awesome actor, whether it's comedy, action or whatever.
      2. Could all this be a publicity stunt to elevate him to bigger and better things?
      3. What the hell does the number of ex-wives and girlfriends and number of children have to do with anything? As long as he loves and supports them financially and emotionally, then I have no problem whatsoever!

I wish thet they would leave him alone. He didnt do anything the other actors do, and you know forgiveness is a gift from God. Good luck Charlie!

all I know is we all have our demons, charlie's are just more public and he like a lot of us didn't have the tools to fix it. Money can't buy everything! I did love him in the show, they are all so talented, I really don't know if it will be even close to as funny without him. I wish him well.

    • Ronald  •  8 months ago
Well he never was a great actor to start with but his antics of the past just goes to show the make up of the man. He shot his mouth off then instead of trying to reconcile the problem and stop the avalanche of truoble he hoped on the toboggen and road it for all its worth. Just goes to show he has no true charater and I wouldnt hire him to walk my dog.
