Chicago Fire's Fake Plane Crash Fools Reporters

Is this a bad time to say "psych"?

Chicago Fire recently filmed a fake plane crash that was so convincing, one local Chicago news station reported the accident as breaking news!

News anchors Larry Potash and Robin Baumgarten of Chicago's WGN-Channel 9 showed images of the accident while telling viewers to bear with them as they tried to get information. After noting that one wing was knocked off, the anchors got word the crash wasn't real — much to the obvious dismay of the anchors. Baumgarten repeatedly asked "Are you kidding me?" before saying "They might want to tell the news folks when they're doing this."

A Chicago Fire Department spokesman later told The Chicago Tribune that information about the fake crash was not distributed properly to the correct channels. "It looks like it didn't get filtered down to everybody," Larry Langford told the paper. A spokesman for Universal TV said all the "usual protocol" was followed.
