Ciaran Hinds Cast in 'Game of Thrones' as King Beyond the Wall

"Rome" and "Political Animals" star Ciaran Hinds has been cast on "Game of Thrones" as Mance Rayder, a former member of the Night's Watch who broke his vow and has gone on to become known as the King Beyond the Wall.

Hinds has a little experience playing men in power: On USA's "Political Animals," he plays former U.S. president Bud Hammond. On HBO's "Rome," he played Gaius Julius Caesar.

Rayder is crucial to the third season of HBO's "Game of Thrones": The second season finale ended with Night's Watchman Jon Snow (Kit Harington) being taken to meet Rayder.

Hinds was born in Belfast, where "Game of Thrones" bases its production. His other roles include turns in "Munich," "The Sum of All Fears," "Road to Perdition," and "There Will Be Blood."
