'Clone Wars' Sound Designer/Voice Actor David Acord Talks About His New Role

Portrays Boba Fett's Bodyguard and Companion

David Acord is the sound designer and re-recording mixer for "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." He also voices different characters for the weekly series that airs on Cartoon Network. I had the opportunity to talk with Acord about his sound work on the hit series and the newest character he'll be voicing.

You'll be adding a new character to your resume with the March 2nd episode of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." Tell us a little bit about him.

There's a bounty hunter droid named Highsinger I'll be voicing in an episode entitled "The Bounty." He's a brand new character. He's a companion bounty hunter for Boba Fett. He's like Boba Fett's Chewbacca. He's a giant assassin-type droid who is Boba Fett's bodyguard and companion.

How many characters have you portrayed on "The Clone Wars?"

Eleven total. They're all kind of nuts and bolts kinds of guys. The only recurring character is the little rabbit droids that pop up quite a bit. Then there are guys like the "Nomad Droids" episode where I played Albee Dewa and Jimba, one of the Lilliputian type guy that captures C-3PO and R2-D2.

Have you ever wanted to voice a main character?

I think that's what every actor would like is to have is more acting opportunities. I'm happy with the roles I've been awarded.

How many sound effects do you think you guys use in one episode?

I've never thought about counting. I would say around a couple thousand if we're talking individual ones. That means every time an effect comes up and counting that as an effect. We'll take one laser effect and make maybe a dozen or so different variations of it. They will be slightly higher pitched and slightly lower pitched. There are slight variations in it so that when the editors or I cut it we can use different variations of that effect. [That way] it doesn't sound so repetitious. It gives it a musical quality where it can slightly change when it's firing.

You're not actually voicing anyone in the upcoming episode "Massacre," but you were involved in the sound. Tell us a bit about what fans can expect.

It's one of my favorite episodes so far. It's pretty much non-stop action. I love the zombies. It's one of my favorite bad guys or good guys, depending on the way you look at it. They're one of the best creations to come out of the show.
