'Community' Leads Critics' Choice Television Awards Nominees

The NBC comedy series Community received six nominations, the most of any show in the 2nd annual Critics’ Choice Television Awards, announced Tuesday, and NBC was the most honored TV network with 14 nominations.

The peacock was closely followed by ABC with 13 nominations and Fox with 12. HBO got the most among cable networks with 12, while FX and AMC each received 11 nominations.

The nominated shows reflect  “the amazing diversity and creativity that is exploding on the small screen today,” said Joey Berlin, acting president of the Broadcast Television Journalist Association, an off shoot of the Broadcast Film Critics Association, which presents the awards. Winners will be announced at an awards event on June 18 in Beverly Hills.

Community was nominated for Best Comedy Series, with Joel McHale chosen to compete as best actor in a comedy series, Jim Rash as best supporting actor in a comedy series, Alison Brie and Gillian Jacobs as best supporting actresses in a comedy series and Danny Pudi as best supporting actor in a comedy series.

The AMC series Mad Men was the most honored drama with five nominations, including Best Drama, Best Actor Jon Hamm, best actress Elisabeth Moss and John Slattery as best supporting actor in a drama series.

The awards honor programs and performances that aired between June 1, 2011 and May 31, 2012. Since last year, the critics have added six new categories including Best Movie or Mini-series, Best Actor in a Movie or Mini-Series, Best Actress in a Movie or Mini-Series, Best Guest Performer in a Drama Series, Best Guest Performer in a Comedy Series and Best Animated Series.

There is one other category, The Most Exciting New Series, which is still being decided based on pilot episodes of upcoming shows.

Last year the TV awards were shown on the Reelz Channel and streamed live on VH1’s web site. This year there is no broadcast deal in place, at least not as of the announcement of the nominations.

Bob Bain will executive produce the live show for Bob Bain Productions.
