Patricia sacrifices her future to save her family's land in "Corazón Apasionado." However, she shows her discontent at the wedding with her outfit and adds a dramatic speech to prove her point. Nevertheless, she accomplishes her goal of getting her family's land back from Alejandro by marrying him.
Revenge and obsession
Alejandro was once in love with Patricia's mother and obsessed with her. His marriage to her mother did not last, but they had Virginia who is Patricia's oldest sister. Her mother's second marriage produced Patricia and Marielita. Although Patricia's mother passed away, Alejandro's obsession continued. Since the grown Patricia is almost identical to her mother, his attraction simply moved to her. Alejandro is also determined to get revenge on Ursula because he blames her for the end of his relationship.
The proposal
Alejandro is able to fabricate papers that show he has the right to Ursula's land. He offers a proposal to Patricia that involves marriage in exchange for the land. Although she is in love with Armando Marcano, she agrees to marry Alejandro because she does not want her grandmother to be left destitute.
Making a statement
Patricia agrees to marry Alejandro, but she makes her unhappiness clear at the wedding. She refuses to wear a traditional wedding gown and opts for a black dress with scrunched sleeves. She adds black stilettos and dark makeup to make sure her guests are aware that she views the wedding as a funeral. Patricia also refuses to use a normal bouquet by choosing a small bunch of black roses that have the stems dyed the same color. It seems that the production team of "Corazón Apasionado" has also touched up her black hair to make it look darker. In previous episodes, the influence of filming in the sun had made her hair show highlights.
The speech
Although Alejandro demands that she change into a different outfit, Patricia refuses to listen. Instead, she makes a dramatic speech before the start of the ceremony. She compares her dark dress to the color of her soul and the future of their marriage. She makes sure that the guests are aware she does not love Alejandro and has no desire to marry him. However, Alejandro seems to ignore her, and the ceremony proceeds. Ursula does not attend the wedding, but calls her granddaughter to urge her to leave Alejandro after the wedding. After obtaining the papers she needs, Patricia is able to escape before the reception is over.
