'The Crow' Lawsuit Settles: Weinstein Co. and Relativity to Work Together on Remake
Relativity and the Weinstein Company have settled a lawsuit about the rights to a remake of "The Crow."
Terms of the settlement were not disclosed, but the two studios said that they will team up on the upcoming film.
"The lawsuit between Relativity Media and the Weinstein Company concerning 'The Crow' has been amicably settled out of court, and the parties will continue to work on the film together as planned," a statement released by both studios said.
In a suit filed last April, the Weinstein Co. asked a judge to prohibit Relativity from selling "The Crow" remake to any other company. The Weinstein Company alleged that Relativity has reneged on a deal to allow it to distribute the dark superhero film.
Relativity countered that the studio lacked the $70 million necessary to release the film.
It wanted the court to rescind the Weinstein Company's right of first refusal to release "The Crow," because of its mishandling of the musical bomb "Nine." Relativity claimed that the Weinstein Company misrepresented its financial ability to produce and market the critically drubbed musical.
As part of the settlement, Relativity Media has dismissed all of its claims against the Weinstein Company for any wrongdoing regarding the release and distribution of "Nine."
