The Season 9 finale of "CSI: Miami" was designed to provide a closure to Horatio Caine's pursuit of the convicts that escaped prison in the third episode of the season. The third episode involved a jailbreak through a tunnel, while three convicts were captured immediately five remained at large. The season revolved around the subsequent captures of the convicts who all vowed to take revenge on Horatio for their convictions.
Horatio, played by David Caruso, and Frank Tripp, played by Rex Linn, are seen bringing the last convict, Jack Toller, back on a plane to Miami. Unfortunately, the pilots are on the wrong payroll and the plane does not reach its intended destination. The "CSI: Miami:" team now must round up a killer determined not to return to prison.
The ninth season and the finale were also designed to bring about closure for Horatio in dealing with the murder of his wife, Marisol. By finally stopping her killer, he is able to put part of his past behind him. In addition, the character of Renee Locklear was introduced to the series. Played by Natasha Henstridge, Locklear was first suspected of being an accomplice of Toller. It turns out that she is actually a Secret Service agent undercover. It is expected that her character will continue into Season 10 as a possible romantic interest for Horatio.
Unfortunately, for viewers this was not the entire plot of the season finale. Natalia Boa Vista, played by Eva La Rue, has been trying to help a former cellmate of Toller regain custody of his children. Randy North claims to have no knowledge of Toller's activities and insists that any communication with the escaped convict would jeopardize his chances for obtaining custody. North is then found disposing of a vehicle Toller used in his escape. He states that Toller threatened his children and Natalia testifies on his behalf. When North looses custody, he then seeks revenge and blames Horatio and Natalia. Viewers are left with the finale scene of a car rolling off a pier with Natalia locked in the trunk. Will Natalia be written out of the show? Will Season 10 open with a dramatic rescue? Only time and the series writers have answers to these questions.
"CSI: Miami" airs on CBS, Sunday evenings at 10 pm ET. While the show is in Hiatus catch up on missed episodes and await the Season 10 opener to find out what happens to Natalia.
