It was a blast from the past (with an updated twist!) on Monday night's "Dancing With the Stars: All Stars," when the stars and their pro partners took on iconic dance routines from past seasons.
We caught up with "DWTS" pro dancer Karina Smirnoff after the show to get the scoop on her sultry foxtrot with partner Apolo Ohno, this week's double elimination, next week's surprising changes, and where she gets all that energy!
For their iconic dance, Apolo and Karina chose Gilles Marini and Cheryl Burke's memorable "Fever" foxtrot from Season 8. Karina said they chose the dance to showcase how much Apolo has grown in the five years since he was last on the show. She felt that Gilles's famous foxtrot was "the perfect opportunity" to show off Apolo's mature confidence and sexiness.
And it worked! They scored 25.5 points for their dance, which featured gorgeous statues (Karina was one of them) and a classy, three-piece-suit kind of sexy that had judge Carrie Ann Inaba calling it "a memorable dance we're never going to forget."
But how did Karina feel about giving her speedskating partner creative control for the week? She said the two of them still worked very closely together to make a "little dancing movie," calling Apolo "extremely creative."
Although Gilles Marini made it known that he didn't exactly like the idea of recreating a dance that was previously done by someone who is currently on the show, he later told Apolo and Karina that their redo of his dance was arousing and super sexy. (Sounds like a compliment to us!)
Meanwhile, what did Karina think of having two of her past dances recreated? (Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani channeled her Season 13 samba with J.R. Martinez, while Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke took on her Season 3 paso doble with Mario Lopez.) Karina admits those dances bring back special memories for her and said, "Thank you for choosing my dance!"
Karina's "DWTS" style has been especially hot this season -- a weekly blog for InStyle gives all the details behind her inspiration - and week 3 was her most sizzling look yet. On the heels of her premiere night "Party Rock" neon and last week's Sarah Jessica Parker-inspired glam dress, what did week 3 bring on the fashion front? She donned black fringe paints and a sheer, rhinestone-embellished top. Karina was immediately enamored with the fabric for her pants, saying, "I fell in love with it," and calling this week's costume "fun, sexy, glamorous."
As for her grueling rehearsal schedule, Karina admits she's not a morning person and is more of a night owl. So where does she get all that energy for those early morning practice sessions? She recently unveiled her all-natural stimulant-free supplement, Karina's Ketones, which give her an instant energy boost. She's even shared it with some of her "DWTS" co-stars.
Meanwhile, there are some big changes on tap for next week's "Dancing With the Stars."
TV judge and choreographer Paula Abdul will appear as a guest judge, which may really shake the scores up. In another twist, the all-stars will pick next week's dances for each other.
Karina admits she's excited to hear Paula Abdul's feedback. "She' an amazing choreographer," Karina said. And as for the all-stars' dance picks, what would Karina like to see? Well, she wouldn't mind saddling Gilles with a Russian folk dance!
Be sure to check out Karina and Apolo on the "Dancing With the Stars" week 3 results show airing Tuesday, 10/9 at 8 PM EST on ABC.
