Danny Masterson recently returned to TV on the new TBS sitcom "Men at Work." And even though he's forging new friendships on the buddy series, his old pals from "That '70s Show" aren't out of his life.
Danny Masterson Returns to TV in the Buddy Comedy 'Men at Work.'
On the office comedy, Masterson plays Milo, a young man who's suffering after a really recent break-up with his girlfriend. Unlike other buddy comedies, Milo doesn't get a whole lot of touchy-feely support from his three best friends. In fact they're all a little too self-absorbed to really seem to care about his problems. That's the crux of the comedy in "Men at Work," and Masterson discussed the dynamic in a recent conference call interview. Each of the characters is at a different turning point in his life. Michael Cassidy's character, Tyler, is the stylish and sophisticated writer of the group. And Neal, played by Adam Busch, is the only one left in a committed relationship, but often seeks advice from his pals about how to handle his girlfriend, Amy.
Danny Masterson Finds on Screen Chemistry in 'Men at Work.'
Masterson compared the comedy quartet to that of another famous TV series. "It's kind of like what were the relationships with the girls on 'Sex and the City' and intertwines of all their love stories and business and career and whatnot. And I feel like we're doing the male version of that." Hopefully "Men at Work" will enjoy the same success as "SATC" did. Of course, so much of that show's popularity stemmed from the magnetic chemistry among the four stars.
Danny Masterson Is Still in Touch with His Co-Stars from 'That '70s Show.'
Masterson is no stranger to catching that kind of lightning in a bottle. After all his last prime time hit, "That '70s Show," could certainly chalk up their success in part to the sparks that flew among its up-and-coming cast, which included future superstars Ashton Kutcher from "Two and a Half Men" and "Black Swan's" Mila Kunis. That show ran for eight seasons making Masterson a household name and earned him some real life friends of his own. He revealed that he still stays in touch with his co-stars from the period sitcom. "I went to have dinner with Kutcher on Friday night. And then last week I was in New York City having dinner with Mila. So those are my very closest friends. I still email and text with Debra Jo [Rupp] and Kurtwood [Smith] all the time who played Red and Kitty [Forman]. And so, yes, I love those guys. They're like my family."
Danny Masterson's 'That '70s Show' Co-Stars Will Appear on 'Men at Work.'
In fact two of Masterson's "That '70s Show" costars are actually going to be lending their support to the series. Both Wilmer Valderrama and Laura Prepon have signed on to make guest appearances on the show this season. See Masterson's worlds collide when "Men at Work" airs on Thursday nights at 10 p.m. EST/9 p.m. CST on TBS.
