Dealing with Third on 'Dancing with the Stars'

A Look at How Third is Treated

With Season 12 of "Dancing With The Stars" over, let's take a look back at the finale. This season ended on a controversial note, with many fans outraged over Chelsea and Mark's third place finish. The biggest shocker was how third place was treated '" badly. Kirstie's reaction was yet another shocker. So how did the couples handle their respective finishes?

    Hines and Kym

Obviously, the winners were elated. They worked hard and after Kym's neck injury she was even happier that her chances in the finale paid off. Thanks to his great attitude and hard work, he definitely deserved his place in the top two at least. With all the football fans supporting him, it's no wonder he managed to pull off the win. They were happy with the win and happy for the time they spent with everyone else.

    Kirstie and Maks

This is where things started to look really bad. Instead of seeming happy for the winners, Kirstie Alley just appeared angry. In her mind, she as the winner from the first week. She's always had a major ego, but it really showed itself in the finale. A look of shock, followed by sudden anger and frustration filled her face instead of a good sportsman like smile. It actually took her noticeable time to even bother with a half hearted congratulations. Even Maks seemed surprised they didn't win. Considering how depressed he looked each week when the two stayed in the competition, Maks's reaction was a bit startling.

The two may have worked hard, but the talent just wasn't there. Fans of "Dancing With The Stars" weren't happy she made it to second, but they only have themselves to blame. Kirstie obviously had enough fans to push her almost to the front.

    Chelsea and Mark

If Kirstie's reaction was bad, how the third place couple was treated made that seem like nothing. Usually, every couple gets a few minutes to thank everyone and talk about their experience on the show. For many fans, Chelsea was the sure fire winner. She was the only contestant that was there just to have fun. She liked everyone and enjoyed herself. The other two stars couldn't hope to match her talent. So what did she receive for her trouble? Nothing.

Instead of being allowed to say much of anything, the couple got pushed quickly to the side to make room for the final two. No fan fare, no goodbyes, just a quick get out of the way for the winner. Fans may have handled the results better if one of the favorites had been treated better. In the future, "Dancing With The Stars" should give everyone a chance to say goodbye or a least one more moment in the proverbial sun.
