Since his appearance in Season 4 of "Dancing with the Stars," Derek Hough has been embraced by many fans. He didn't become one of the show's regular dancers until Season 5, when he danced with Jennie Garth. The duo made it to Week 9, the semi-finals. Derek has remained a force to be reckoned with ever since. In most seasons, he has made it nearly to the end, or taken the coveted mirror-ball trophy.Derek took off Season 12 to work on a movie. This gave others a chance to step up and take the trophy. Now that he is returning to Season 13, one can't help but wonder if the break has made him better, or will he be just slightly off his game until he gets used to the show's rigorous schedule? This season, he will be partnered with Ricki Lake. She has her own small bit of dancing experience, something Derek has taken advantage of with past contestants.
He took his first partner to victory in Season 7. Brooke Burke, now the show's co-host, was the first lady to celebrate mirror-ball trophy status as Derek's partner. While he made it to Week 9 in Season 8 and Season 9, he wasn't able to win. However, he became victorious once again with Pussycat Dolls' Nicole Scherzinger. The two were unbeatable from the beginning. With her dance background and flexibility, she was the perfect canvas for Derek Hough.
There was no wait time for the next trophy. Once again, this duo was slated to win from the beginning. While the competition was tough, Derek Hough and Jennifer Grey took home the win for Season 11. It was a very emotional victory for Jennifer, since she dedicated several of her dances to her "Dirty Dancing" co-star, the late Patrick Swayze.
Now that Derek is back and ready to show the world he's still got what it takes, will Ricki Lake be the next female to win the Mirror ball? The show's new cast will offer up quite a bit of talent and four surprises. Unlike most seasons, there isn't anyone who is the obvious front runner. Then again, some of the most entertaining seasons are when you don't know who might win. Until we see the first few weeks, it's anybody's game. Regardless, "Dancing with the Stars" fans will be glad to see one of their favorite dancers return to the dance floor.
