'Desperate Housewives': The 10 Things We Will Miss Most

We knew it might happen, yet there was still a bit of shock, when ABC television announced that the eighth season of "Desperate Housewives" would be its last. As we get ready for the final episodes that the network has dubbed "Kiss Them Goodbye," it's a good time to take a look at the 10 things we will miss most when Sunday nights don't include a glimpse into Wisteria Lane.

    1. Mom Lynette Scavo-While trying to have a career and raise five children, she does what so many of us want to - admit that it isn't easy. She has moments where she actually admits to disliking her children. Lynette even has times where she can't wait to get away from them. She echoes the sentiments that mothers sometimes feel if -- even for a second -- but would never admit.

    2. Paul's Evil Eye-While Paul Young wrecks havoc with Wisteria Lane, he also intrigues us. We don't want him in jail, we want him front and center in every storyline. He's one character we really don't know what to expect from, like when we found out that he really did have a heart that was falling for Beth.

    3. Bree's Cooking-No, we can't actually taste the food, but we want to hear about what Bree's whipping up. As she shows up to greet new neighbors with fresh baked muffins, we want to head to our local bakery; when she serves a roast, we listen carefully to see what she's put in the sauce; and as she cuts the vegetables to put in her stew, we are ready to go to the market.

    4. Gaby's Wardrobe-Yes, everything looks good on Eva Longoria, but Gaby's clothes still look realistic enough for us to think we can look that good. Every time she puts on that skin hugging warm up suit we want to go work out so we can buy one of our own.

    5. The Children-The children of Wisteria Lane are not cookie cutter sitcom. They are small and large; tall and short; difficult and helpful. They are real. Though Bree's reaction may have been over the top, mother's everywhere could understand how she felt when son Andrew announced he was gay.

    6. Partying With Renee-Feeling sad or lonely? Call Renee for a good time. Vanessa Williams portrays Renee Perry with the same zest she brought to her character on "Ugly Betty," except this desperate housewife doesn't care if someone on the block died or your marriage is breaking up - she wants to have fun. She's the friend we call to cheer us up day or night.

    7. Terry Hatcher-She was entertaining as Lois Lane in "Superman," but Terry Hatcher has had a chance to let her comical talents shine on "Desperate Housewives." We can always count on Susan Delfino to lighten up the moment, whether she plans on being funny or not.

    8. The Voice of Mary Alice-We've never really gotten to know Mary Alice Young (except in flashbacks), but her voice remains with us long after we shut off the television. She lets us know what has happened and what will happen in a calm voice. We can always count on the dead housewife to be the rational one.

    9. The Desperate Husbands-Mike, Tom, Carlos, all of the husbands on "Desperate Housewives" take a back seat to the wives, but they are the husbands we want, ready to massage our feet, bring us flowers, and even forgive us if we decide to do a little flirty with the cute doctor in town.

    10. Wisteria Lane-With its manicured lawns and perfect weather every day (except for the one tornado in Season 4), Wisteria Lane is the ideal place to live. You will never have trouble finding a plumber, lawyer or landscaper when you need one and the chances are pretty good he will also be quite hot.
