The Solis marriage on "Desperate Housewives" may be stronger than ever. Carlos (Ricardo Antonio Chavira) stood by Gabrielle (Eva Longoria) during her breakdown over finding out about her baby daughter hospital switch, and as she confronted her stepfather, both at his grave and in her house during a dinner party. Apparently he was not as dead as he appeared to be, until Carlos made sure that he didn't sexually abuse anyone else ever again. Gaby stood by her man as he went to jail, was blind and on parole, and started all over again at keeping her in the manner to which she had become accustomed. Now their marriage bonds are stronger than ever before as they deal with Carlos' murder of her stepfather. Longoria may have a strong marriage on screen, but not currently off screen.
Previously married to NBA player Tony Parker, Longoria divorced him after finding text messages on his phone from another woman. But ending the relationship was not quite that easy. Longoria has spent a great deal of time courtside, when she wasn't busy filming "Desperate Housewives." She admits that there wasn't much time for herself and that she will never be in that situation again. "For me, being a woman, I realized you cannot identify yourself through a man or through your marriage... or through a partner. I think it's our nature to be socially constructed that way. To just be inferior or subservient and you don't have to be."
Even though the "third time" may be the charm, she is in no hurry to jump back into marriage. Star Magazine reported that Longoria was engaged, but in a recent interview with Access Hollywood, she may have been wearing Oscar De La Renta, but what she wasn't wearing was an engagement ring.
Though not opposed to marriage she "just doesn't give it a lot of thought right now," Longoria says. "I'm a very strong person. Personally I went through a lot. . . I'm a survivor, I believe in love, I believe that things are meant to be and that whatever happens is for a reason." She is grateful for her experiences and "optimistic" about what the future may hold. She goes on to share, "I'm at peace with myself, my spirituality, my friends, my family. I have this amazing life, so I'm really happy deep inside my heart."
Even though she is not ready to go racing down the aisle again, she doesn't believe in a long engagement. She thinks of an engagement as the planning step between being single and being married.
Longoria is currently involved with Eduardo Cruz, brother of actress Penelope Cruz. Before her marriage and divorce to basketball player Tony Parker, she was married to actor Tyler Christopher for a short time.
While she may not be ready to take the plunge into the deep waters of marriage again, one source told Cover Media that "Eva has always wanted to be a mom, and I wouldn't be surprised if she's pregnant before she weds again." I wonder how they would work that into the story line on "Desperate Housewives." Can you see a pregnant Gaby in jail for the murder of her stepfather as she tries to protect Carlos?
