‘Desperate Housewives’ Gets Ready for the Final Season

While Susan, Lynette, Gabrielle and Bree deal with the guilt of having covered up the killing of Gaby's stepfather in the Season 7 finale, you can be sure that won't be the only story line explored during the eighth and final season of "Desperate Housewives."

    Susan Delfino

Susan was having a rough time when the season ended. She had been a suspect in the poisoning of Paul Young when all she had wanted to do was cook some meals for Paul to thank him for letting her have Beth's kidney. Fortunately, it was discovered that Felicia was the culprit during her effort to get Paul to confess to her sister's murder. Though Felicia's plan to kill Paul didn't work, she did get him to confess the murder so he went off to jail. Susan is in the clear. She and Mike have moved back to Wisteria Lane. Their financial problems have also improved so it looks like things may go well for them -- at least for now. Susan still has some major health issues and Mike needs to find some work he will get paid for regularly.

    Renee Perry

Renee is always smiling and acting like the world is her oyster, at least in public. It was a tough spring for her as she found out her star athlete ex-husband was getting remarried. When the season ended, Renee was playing cougar to a bartender that was young enough to be her son (possibly grandson). The couple came along for the dinner on Wisteria Lane. It's clear that Renee will not be having a long term relationship with the bartender, but she is certainly due for one. Rumor has it that Charles Mesure, who starred in the ABC series "V," will be joining "Desperate Housewives" as a sexy contractor who falls for Renee.

    Lynette Scavo

Major trouble in paradise has been brewing between Lynette and husband Tom. She's not comfortable with his new job -- maybe because she doesn't have one anymore. They've been trying to patch things up, even taking a trip to a B&B, but it only made them realize that they have little in common lately. They ended Season 7 making the decision to separate. Tom and Lynette will continue to have marital problems. Will their marriage survive? It's certainly survived a lot: job losses and changes; kids being born, going wild, and even a baby dying; Lynette's near affair; Tom's real affair with Renee; poverty and wealth; and Lynette's bout with cancer. It's hard to believe that this duo won't end up together in the end.

    Bree Van de Kamp

Bree's now dating a detective, but things have been moving rather slowly between them. Lee put the bug in her mind that maybe Detective Vance was gay. After doing some investigating of her own, Bree found out that he wasn't gay, he had just been visiting gay bars as part of a sting operation. The duo got much closer as Season 7 ended, and the two finally became intimate (while the neighbors were waiting to come in for dinner). Bree's relationships rarely go smoothly, so don't look for that to happen with Detective Vance. Actually, the two look like they don't even have any chemistry. There are currently no plans to bring Kyle MacLachlan back as Bree's former husband, Orson. It's too bad since that duo definitely had chemistry. It's probably a pretty safe bet, though, that we'll be seeing her children, Andrew and Danielle, before the show goes off the air.

    Gabrielle Solis

A stranger was following Gaby around and lurking on Wisteria Lane. She finally got a good look at his face and realized it was her stepfather, Alejandro, the man who abused her for years. Gaby thought he was dead. She was determined to make sure he was never going to hurt her again, so she began taking shooting lessons. Gaby lured him into the woods and held a gun to his head, but she didn't kill him, she told him to leave. Later, while all of her friends were enjoying a neighborhood progress dinner, he approached her in her house and was about to rape her. Fortunately, Carlos arrived in time and hit Alejandro over the head with a candle holder, killing him. Then Bree, Lynette and Susan arrived. The Wisteria Lane housewives stuck together for what may be their biggest secret of all. They vowed not to tell anyone about Alejandro's death and to go on with the progressive dinner as if nothing had happened, but can they do that forever? Secrets have a way of coming out and that's just what may happen in the final season of "Desperate Housewives."
