Since "Desperate Housewives" day one, Paul Young has been a bitter, troubled soul. He has a track record of misdeeds and unresolved issues. He's not very nice at all, and he likes it that way. Still there's always a chance he will change long enough to give up Beth's kidney. If the "Desperate Housewives" are nice to Paul, he may save Susan's life?Paul's clinically dead wife, Beth, is Susan's kidney match. That's perfect because saving Susan's life was her dying wish. She filled out the donor paperwork. She hand delivered them to the hospital. Beth forced the ER nurse to take them, then she shot herself in the head. Her intentions were clear. She left no room for misunderstanding. Unfortunately, for a man like Paul, that meant nothing.
So, Is the Transplant a Go?
With Beth dead, the transplant details were supposed to fall into place. Beth's death was to mean a final good deed for her, a kidney for Susan and a wife and mother for Mike and M.J. The transplant should have been a done deal. The only remaining question should have been: What on earth does Paul do to inspire such bloody suicides?
The reality of it is that Paul could stand in the way of Susan's sure thing. Beth is clinically dead but he is still her husband. He is also a spoiled child. It's his ball and he may not let Susan play unless she plays his game.
The Trials and Tribulations of Paul Young
Paul has had a desperate life. When his first wife died, she left behind a son who didn't belong to either of them. He raised little Zach into a perfect reflection of himself, all frowning and bitter and not wrapped too tight. Along the way Paul's former neighbor (Beth's Mom) framed him for murder. He did commit murder, just not the one he was arrested for.
Eventually he got out of prison, but his jail time kept the bitterness fresh and flowing. Like the Grinch, Paul Young's tiny, evil heart shrunk even smaller. If the "Desperate Housewives" don't do something, that pebble of a heart will keep him from saving Susan's life.
What is Paul's Game?
Susan is desperate. She's dying. If Paul denies her Beth's kidney, it may push her over the edge. She may find it hard to play his game, but Paul needs a reason to change his mind. He needs the one thing he's missed in his life. He needs kindness. Paul makes it hard to be kind, but Bree should bake him some muffins. Lynnette should bring him some flowers. Renee should take him out to dinner. Gabrielle should send him a greeting card, after all his wife just died.
Instead of punching Paul for being a hateful guy, Mike should take him out for a beer to cry in. Tom should join them and help him grieve for his wife. His heart is as hard as a rock, but it's got to be hurting. Even if he did kick her to the curb the night she died. Paul needs a little kindness. Only kindness will soften that rock hard heart of his and allow him to show Susan some kindness in return.
If that doesn't work, there's always Bree.
