It's Lynette and Tom Scavo's 22nd anniversary, and it's not like any of the others. This year they are separated, and it's not looking like that is going to change. Even though it was originally Lynette's idea that the two should split at the end of last season, she is upset by the idea that Tom has finally gone along with it and is realizing that maybe it was all a mistake.
Lynette feels hope after she receives anniversary flowers that are signed "Love, Tom." She does her hair and gets dressed in a sexy outfit to go see her estranged husband at his apartment. She lets herself in when she finds he isn't home, but is shocked when Tom shows up with his new girlfriend, Jane. Lynette hides under the bed, but has to make herself known when the couple ends up on top of the bed.
Jane, whom is starting to get really annoying in the role of the girlfriend, excuses herself so Tom and Lynette can talk. Lynette expresses her confusion about the flowers with the loving card and Tom he admits that she only received them because he had placed a standing order with the florist after forgetting their anniversary one year.
As disappointed as Lynette looked hearing the news that Tom hadn't actually ordered the flowers this year, it didn't compare to the news she would hear next. The real moment of truth came when Tom said he would cancel the order so Lynette would not receive any more anniversary flowers in the future. He didn't say it to be argumentative, but matter of fact, as if it was his declaration of wanting to finalize the end of the marriage. The look on Lynette's face made it clear that she just felt a knife go through her heart.
Despite Tom's expressed desire to move on (with a new relationship), and Lynette's constant admittance over the last year that she doesn't think they make each other happy, it's hard to believe this is really the end. This couple has a rich history of ups and downs. We all want to believe they will find their way back into each other's arms.
We'll just have to wait and see Lynette and Tom kiss and make up before "Desperate Housewives" comes to an end and we have to kiss them goodbye.
