In its final season, "Desperate Housewives" has gone a bit overboard lately on giving us too many stories to watch. Some of the scenes have been written badly, making us question whether we'll even miss the ladies. We've also lost track of just how many secrets are being kept. Things changed in the "Putting It Together" episode, though, as the show recaptured the suspense and excitement we always loved.
One of the things that it seemed "Desperate Housewives" was overdoing was alcoholism with both Carlos and Bree drinking too much. Carlos is now in rehab and basically on the back burner, but the writers have proven Bree's drinking to be pivotal to the story as it further drives a wedge between herself and her neighbors. Bree even loses Renee's friendship when she's seen being consoled by Renee's boyfriend, Ben.
The scenes between Susan and Felix about Susan suddenly being the artist of the year are silly, until it leads to an invitation for Susan to move to New York. We realize just then how desperate a housewife she has become in her quest to escape the mess surrounding the murder.
Panic sets in for Lynette, too, as she realizes it's possible she could go to jail. She is forced to stop Tom from leaving for Paris with his girlfriend, Jane (who is getting downright obnoxious). And while we know that Lynette really didn't want them to go anyway, we know that at this moment she just wants Tom to at least be there for her kids in case she is arrested.
This all brings us back to Gabrielle, the woman whose stepfather was killed. Gaby does her best to hide everything from Chuck the cop, including the fact that the deceased was her stepfather. It doesn't work. We then know that Chuck has enough information to bring these women down.
While the "Putting it Together" episode was suspenseful throughout, nothing could quite prepare us for the spectacular ending. First, there's Chuck declaring on a voice mail to Bree that he knows what happened, followed immediately by him being run down by a car. The next thing we see is Bree. She checks into a hotel and sits down at the table with a bottle of liquor and a gun. She then has a conversation with her deceased friend Mary Alice.
Will Bree take her life as Mary Alice did? That's the question to ponder as we finally have a reason to anxiously await an episode of "Desperate Housewives."
