Julie Bowen (Luetkemeyer - her actual maiden name), who plays Claire Dunphy on "Modern Family," in fact, did a video, which is on You Tube, with Elmo about the word "binoculars." It is very sweet and cute, sort of like her character on "Modern Family." Claire Dunphy, though, could not have performed with Elmo quite as well, however. Being married to Phil Dunphy, the quirky, klutzy father of their children, usually has her on her toes. She is that glue that keeps the family together, however, sometimes the glue can be a little ditsy. But, that's why we like her.Julie Bowen plays the Claire Dunphy character perfectly, but she is no newbie to acting. Her television credits are impressive and include a run on "Boston Legal," "Weeds," Ed," and "Lost." "Lost" fans will remember her as the woman Matthew Foxes character saved from paralysis which altered his life and way of thinking as a doctor and person.
Bowen's film credits include, "Jumping the Broom" with Angela Basset and "Conception" with David Arquette.
All her roles in television and film have been different, which I think makes her thrive as an actress. Her character on "Modern Family," albeit blond and ditsy and sweet, has a lot of levels which I think Bowen has given Claire through her acting.
This woman is no dummy. She attended Brown University, graduating with a B.A. in Renaissance studies. Guess when you are that smart, the smart colleges have all sorts of degrees you can get. She was born in 1970 in Baltimore, Maryland and also attended the highly acclaimed Roland Park academy which is an all girls preparatory school from Kindergarten through 12th grade. My guess is, being intelligent helps role playing when acting because it helps the actor or actress with understanding a character that can be much deeper then what most of us see with the "naked" eye.
