Love is arguably the most powerful emotion a person can feel, and people will go to great lengths to protect (or avenge) their loved ones. Many different TV characters are motivated by love. Unfortunately, that love doesn't always motivate them to do good deeds. From realistic dramas to supernatural tales, these TV shows feature characters who do bad things in the name of love.
It can be hard to remember now, but Walt wasn't always such an amoral criminal. In fact, Walt only got involved in the drug trade because he wanted to provide for his family. Diagnosed with lung cancer, Walt thought he didn't have much time left to live. Cooking meth would quickly earn him thousands of dollars, which his pregnant wife and disabled son could live on after Walt died. Walt loved his family so much that he risked life and limb to provide for them. But that love for family brought Walt down a path filled with murder, poison, and violence.
This fantastic retelling of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" is set in modern times. In this interpretation of the tale, the split personality is caused by love. The psychopathic Hyde is love personified: He's the type of lover that is so devoted, he will kill anyone who gets between him and the love of his life. Hyde's a brutal killer, but he only kills because he wants to be with Jekyll's wife and be able to protect her from the evils of the world.
Damon becomes a remorseless killer after being spurned and abandoned by Katherine. He can't stop loving her and pursues her throughout the centuries with a manic, bloody fury. When he has a chance to reunite with her, he is willing to kill many innocent people to be with her again. Damon's brother Stefan also becomes a killer because of love. In Season 3, Stefan loves Elena so much that he is willing to travel with Klaus and become a ripper simply to ensure her safety.
Pretty much everyone in "Buffy" does bad things because of love. When Willow's lover is murdered, Willow seeks to avenge her death by ending the world. Angel loves Buffy so much and is so happy with her that he reverts to a violent demon form and begins to engage in all kinds of violent behavior. And let's not even get started on the questionable things that Spike did to Buffy because he "loved" her.
Love made the entire cast of "Lost" do some bad things, but Michael stands out from the pack. He killed both Libby and Ana Lucia, and then bargained with the Others. He did all these things because of the love for his son Walt, who had been taken prisoner by the Others.
