The day after Halloween, Jamie Foxx tweeted that he dressed up as Spider-Man villain Electro, prompting major Internet buzz that the Oscar winner may be circling the role for the highly anticipated follow-up to The Amazing Spider-Man. Now, Spidey director Marc Webb may have let the cat out of the bag while promoting the upcoming release of The Amazing Spider-Man on Blu-ray...
"I like Green Goblin. I like Electro a lot. I think Electro is pretty fantastic," Webb tells ETonline when asked about his favorite Spider-Man villains. Since a shadowy figure that appears to be Norman Osborn (aka Green Goblin) shows up during Amazing's end credits, does that mean both will make appearances in the follow-up film, set for a May 2, 2014 release?
Just to muddy the waters, Webb adds more of his favorite Spidey villains, "I've always liked Craven too. I think Craven is interesting. [And] Hobgoblin."
Looking forward to the next movie, Webb reveals that the screws are going to tighten on Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker: "There's a lot of pressure coming his way, and we'll see how he handles it."
"The last movie, Peter's sort of discovering his powers and he's getting gradually better," explains Webb. "Peter, in the next movie, is going to be a virtuoso. Spider-Man, from the outset, is a pro. He's an expert, and he's having a blast, and he is just electrifying in terms of his abilities as Spider-Man. That's going to be really fun. I'm really looking forward to a lot of those sequences."
Of course, the very human element that made The Amazing Spider-Man a hit will be on display: "There's an ongoing relationship with Gwen (Emma Stone) that's going to get really complicated and interesting; I'm really excited about that, as is the same with Aunt May (Sally Field)." Webb adds, "If you don't care about that kid in the suit, you're not going to care who he's fighting, or why he's flinging around. It just becomes a spectacle. … That's what's great about Spider-Man comics – there are these great, domestic melodramas that you never had in the old comics that made it really unique and relatable. Peter Parker's not an alien, he's not a billionaire. He's just some kid."
The Amazing Spider-Man Blu-ray, featuring a very cool second-screen app with multiple interactive features, will be available November 9.
