Dr. House hangs up his Fox TV stethoscope

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Fox's medical drama "House" is ending its eight-year run this season.

The show's producers, including Emmy-nominated star Hugh Laurie, said it was a "painful" decision but that the time had come to bring "House" to a close.

The drama stars Laurie as Dr. Gregory House, a brilliant but troubled physician with a gift for unraveling medical mysteries. Omar Epps, Robert Sean Leonard and Charlyne Yi are part of the ensemble cast.

In a statement Wednesday, Laurie and his fellow producers said they imagined Dr. House as an "enigmatic creature," and that it was best for him to vanish while there was still mystery in the air.

The season finale date for "House," which airs 9 p.m. EST Monday, was not announced.

+1! I refuse to watch those crummy reality shows. They are killing television. House is one of the few programs worth watching.

It sucks because it's cheap to produce a reality show.

A.I. just isn't the same without Simon. Sure, he can be a prick, but he's a better judge of who actually has talent and who doesn't and even though I love Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, he really shouldn't be on the show. IMO.

I hope they replace it with something good I'm sick of all these reality shows........

They will most likely replace House with a reality show of some sort...That's the way to save money...put in a stupid idiotic reality show that only a 14 year old kid wants to see.

Dang it!! I watch "House" occasionally, and love Hugh Laurie. He's actually kind of funny with the dirty looks he shoots at his team. Hope we can see him in the future on another show!

I am sure it will go into syndication and we will be able to see it if we want.

Go to YouTube and enter Fry and Laurie and you'll see what a great comic actor Hugh is.
      • Sarah 3 months ago
Definately! Fry and Laurie are great at the skit show, but they were also hilarious in Jeeves and Wooster!

Why is it they take the good shows off and leave the crap on, season after season.

Surprisingly, one big reason is that the longer a show runs the more expensive it becomes to produce. Most of the cost is in actor's salaries and most of the cast of House took a substantial pay cut so the show could continue on past season seven. That's the reason Lisa Edelstein (sp?) left. She wasn't willing to take a pay cut.

I would think that the money from syndication would make up for increased production costs but I don't know how that works.

That's why there are so many "reality" shows. They are the cheapest to produce.

Yeah reality crap is dirt cheap to produce.

Marianne, also, the so-called "experts" who use the Nielson (sp?) Ratings tool to provide feedback on what shows are good/bad are the reason American TV has so many lousy shows; the American public is at the mercy of those few idiots.

Go out on top. Besides, Hugh needs to have more time to walk normally.

I adore House and Hugh Laurie, and it makes me sad to say it, but he's right that it's time to end the show. If you watch the reruns from a couple of years ago, the consistent quality was just astounding -- one of the best, most imaginative, well-acted shows ever. But sometime around when he began his relationship with Cuddy, the show became less consistent, and started to jump the shark now and again. And while it's still not a terrible show or anything, it's just not what it was. That said, Hugh Laurie remains awesome. Time for him to find another vehicle as wonderful as House!

Sad! So now we are supposed to watch the Bachelor? YUCK! I love House and I am so sick of all these "reality" shows taking the place of really good shows.

The only show I really love to watch and a star that is so easily hated and loved. God, what next? Can't we keep the good shows on the tube, not just the junk?

What will be Hugh Laurie's next gem. He is such a great actor! Has anyone seen him in his "Jeeves and Wooster" show? Maybe he'll pursue his love of jazz! He is so talented!! The best always to him!!!

Too bad. It was one of the more intelligent tv dramas.

I love the show, but it's definitely time for it to come to an end. I didn't like last season how they put Cuddy and House together as a couple. LAME! Why do all tv shows have to put coworkers together as a romantic couple. It's so predictable and so lame.

I liked House when the show was about medicine and he could diagnose the problem when no one else could. Lately, it was not about him being a great dr but about his problems trying to manage his pain by taking drugs. Don't want to see that, loved seeing the miracles though.
    • Lucy  •  3 months ago
Cuddy ruined him. As soon as they started dating, the show went downhill.
    • J  •  Irvine, California  •  3 months ago
MaN! This sucks! I love this show one of the few left that aren't in a cop house or a court room! I will miss you house!
