'Drop Dead Diva' Back From the Grave, Gets 5th Season After Cancelation

Rejoice, "Drop Dead Diva" fans; your favorite show has been resurrected after suffering what seemed like certain death by cancelation.

The series has been given a fifth season, after the show was canceled in January.  Lifetime had dropped the series because it had become prohibitively expensive to produce. Prior to the cancelation, Lifetime had approached Sony Pictures Television about coming up with creative ways to keep the show alive.

Lifetime and Sony have now ironed out ways to make the show financially viable.

"Drop Dead Diva" has performed fairly well in the ratings. In combination with "Army Wives," The series helped push Lifetime to the number one cable position on Sundays from 9 to 11 p.m. among the women 25-54 demographic last year.

The series revolves around a shallow model who dies in a car crash and comes back to life in the body of a recently deceased lawyer who had led an altruistic life. Brooke Elliott, Margaret Cho and Jackson Hurst star on the series.

Deadline first reported the news of the "Drop Dead Diva" revival.
