Duggars Plan Memorial Service For Baby Jubilee Shalom; Michelle Hospitalized

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar continue to grieve following the news that the reality TV mom miscarried her 20th child last week.

The "19 Kids and Counting" couple told People that they plan to hold a memorial service on Wednesday for the baby they named Jubilee Shalom Duggar.

"We have had many tears today," Jim Bob told the mag. "This is life, and I understand that we are going [through] something that many others have. You think about the what-ifs, but God gives us strength to go on. We won't be able to see this child's life and the phases that we've seen for our other children, but we know we will see this child in heaven one day. We are thankful for each child, and we are blessed to have the children we have here and the ones we will meet someday in heaven." Michelle, 45 - who doctors advised to let the miscarriage happen naturally -- felt lightheaded on Sunday and was taken from home, where she was being cared for, to the hospital.

The mother of 19 is reportedly being kept under observation and is expected to be released from the hospital on Monday.

Jim Bob thanked their fans for the outpouring of love they received following their heartbreaking news.

"We would like to thank everyone for their prayers, emails and outpouring of love," he wrote in a letter he shared with the mag. "As our whole family is grieving, we also know that God promises to work all things for good in our lives. Our prayer is that Jubilee's passing will help us all realize that this life is short, and our relationship with Jesus is the most important thing. He gives us a peace in our hearts as He guides us through whatever we might face."

Despite their miscarriage, the Duggar patriarch said the entire family was able to celebrate the recent birthday of their youngest child, Joise, 2, who was born in 2009 at just 25 weeks.

"We were looking forward to this birthday because it is a milestone for her," he told the mag of his daughter's December 10 birthday. "It is wonderful that she is with us and doing so well."

This was Michelle's second miscarriage. She previously lost a baby during her second pregnancy, when she was reportedly taking oral birth control. According to the mag, this incident caused the couple to let the number of children they have be left "up to God."

In addition to their youngest daughter, Josie, the couple is also parents to Joshua, 23 (who has two children, Mackynzie, 2, and Michael, 4 months, with wife Anna, 23), twins Jana and John-David, 21; Jill, 20; Jessa, 19; Jinger, 17; Joseph, 16; Josiah, 15; Joy-Anna, 14; twins Jedidiah and Jeremiah, 12; Jason, 11; James, 10; Justin, 8; Jackson, 7; Johanna, 6; Jennifer, 4; and Jordyn, 3.

I am very sorry for their loss. It is NEVER easy to loos a Child, and untill you do you can NOT understand what they are going through! Those of you who spew hate at them, take a look at your own life and ask yourself why you must judge them so harshly. If they would have adopted all the kids, everyone would have a very different opinion about them, but because she has given birth to all of them some how this makes her and him " bad people". Im sorry, but you are so VERY wrong! Those kids, have grown up in a house full of love, and values that MOST kids today don't have. I have not heard them put any blame for this miscarriage on anything, and how DARE you all but the blame on Michelle! Untill you have gone through what her and her family are going through right now, you have NO right, NO right at all, to say the hateful, judgement words you are saying. Shame on you. You don't know them, you only know what you see. and Maybe you really need to open your eyes a little more, and your hearts, and have compassion.

What kind of job does the father have, who supports so many children? is it us the taxpayers?
      • nspired2cre8 5 months ago
GGN- you should do some research before you post- He has never taken a handout from taxpayers, they are actually debt free.

Actually, he was a Senator in the state they live in. Free health care for life for any Senator in all states, so yes, it is Mr. & Mrs. John Q. Taxpayers who paid for Josie's birth and Michelle's hospital stay.

They also have several commerical buildings that they rent out, where they get most of their money from. They also shop at dollar stores for most of their clothing and toys(if they get any) and the grocery store. Don't know if they use coupons or not but they probably should considering it would save them even more money.

Jim Bob Dugger was a Arkansas state representative, not a U.S. senator, as it appears you believe from your comments.

I also respectfully suggest that the Duggars know far more than you seem to imply about living frugally and purposefully.

They blamed the 1st miscarriage on birth control, what will they blame this one on? They were warned by many dr.s after the birth of Josie, the risks is Michelle continued with this non-sense of allowing the husband to decide when and how many children they have. (Research the movement "Quiverfull" that they follow". If they are so determined to have children, then they should ADOPT. JimBob needs to realize that he's continuously putting his wife in danger. And how long will it be this time before she's pregnant again. Not long if JimBob has his say in it. They should be ashamed.

I have to agree with you on this. They blamed the first one on Birth Control pills, so this one, who will they blame it on? God, the oversea trip that they all did or Michelle? Michelle is a very good choice in blaming since her body rejected the fetus as it knew something was not right with the fetus. But they will most likely blame it on the oversea trip to the countries that they went to see. If they want to blame someone for the loss - blame Michelle Dugger for her body finally rejected the fetus and stating to her no more kids. They will not listen to what the doctors tell them as they put having kids in the Lord's hands and it is His will if she gets pregnant. So they do not care at all about the risks that Michelle could have to have another child. The next one might kill her and they'll all state that losing Michelle was God's Will as she gave them number 20 even though he or she costed their mother's life. You can bet those older kids will tell the little one that she or he killed their mom when they get angry with their baby sister or brother. Kids can be extremely cruel to their younger siblings. The Dugger kids might not do that but you can never tell without Michelle there, the kids may take it out on the baby who killed her.

At the funeral for the sack of organ tissue, maybe a few of the younger ones could crawl in the casket...The parents would not notice because they just make the next age group up take care of them! Jim BOB can just start breeding daughter in law for it is the way of the crazy right wingers"

What a hateful, disgusting thing to write! I can't even imagine how your mind must work to come up with such ugly things to say about a family that is grieving the loss of their child. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Their last child was born at 25 weeks, and both mother and baby almost died. This time, it was a miscarriage. How many "signs" do the Duggars need from their God that it's time to stop having babies and just enjoy the children they have, not to mention their 2 grandchildren? She's 45 and has delivered 19 children....how much more can one body take??
    • David  •  5 months ago
If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all, And who are you people to judge the Duggers who love and takecare of their children. I believe Family is the most important part of anybody lifes. I wish you all well and happiness. God bless you all and all who judge you.
    • Megan  •  5 months ago
Children are a blessing- the Bible says "Blessed is the man who has his quiver full of them". I think it's sad that our culture today criticizes a family who has made their personal decision to live out this philosophy. Each couple has their own size of "full quiver" and should not be judged for choosing to have a large family or a small one. May God bless this dear family and continue to use them to prove how backward our society is.
BTW, children having lots of chores to do equals raising responsible adults who know how to pull their own weight- not obese couch potatoes like so many children in America are.

While I'm very sad for what the Duggars have gone through with this last pregnancy, I really do hope this IS their last pregnancy. Michelle is 45 years old--don't believe I need to point out the risks of having a child at that age, both to the mother & the child. It's time to hang up your uterus, Michelle, and focus on the children you already have (and your grandchildren). I think the Duggars are a great family, who all work together to run that household. Some may look at that and think the older children are raising the younger ones, but I grew up in a larger family myself, and my older siblings took on a lot of 'mothering' duties, too. It's really not so uncommon, and shouldn't be looked upon as the mother 'not doing her job' -- again, it's the family working together.

They are beautiful couple. I hope God will bring to them another child.
    • Celeste D  •  5 months ago
So sad for their family, and for any family who has lost a child (born or unborn). They clearly love each of their kids & are able (and have been able, long before their TV show, by the way) to provide for them all without government hand-outs. They focus on helping others - in their family, their community, and around the world. I don't understand how people can write such hateful things about a grieving family. Shame on you.
