‘Go On’ episode ‘Pass Interference’ recap: Valentine’s Day with goddesses

The "Go On" episode "Pass Interference" continues from the last episode, "Comeback Player of the Year." Ryan (Matthew Perry) and Simone (Piper Perabo) are now in a relationship, engendering stares from the rest of the group. Lauren (Laura Benanti) is the only person who is uncomfortable with the situation, after the group saw Simone and Ryan naked in bed together, while Simone seems to be the happiest. In fact, she's quite content having had this group of broken people see her "make love," while Lauren just thinks Simone's overly outgoing nature is creepy.

Owen offers his body to wedding dress research

The female members of the group feel it is time for Lauren to plan for her wedding. They believe that the only reason she is unhappy about Ryan and Simone's relationship is because she "hates love." They figure that the best way to fix that problem is for her to get married to her fiance. The girls grab Owen (Tyler James Williams), because his "slim figure" and "Laureness" make him the perfect Lauren body double. Once she sees the perfect dress, she'll definitely want to take the plunge into marriage, right? Right?

Of course, it doesn't quite work out that way. Lauren still isn't ready. Instead, she convinces the ladies that they don't need marriage to celebrate themselves because they are "goddesses." They decide to have their pretty dress-up girly day in the form of a "goddess party" for Valentine's Day instead of a wedding ceremony. Yolanda (Suzy Nakamura) even creates a goddess party planning album, complete with a monstrous face made by combining all the girls' faces into one for the cover. She calls the strange creature "Sofanda," which is a combination of their names.

The ghost of Janie foils Ryan's Valentine's Day plans

Ryan and Simone decide to have a romantic evening together when Janie (Christine Woods) suddenly appears. Ryan has trouble kissing Simone, as Janie gets right in his face, then sits between the two of them. Ryan bribes Lauren's weight loss group with the trigger foods they just threw out in exchange for advice on what to do about Janie's ghost. One person says he should take Simone someplace where Janie never went. He decides to take Simone to a nice hotel for the evening.

While Simone is in the shower, Janie appears again with a ghost boyfriend. When they get cozy on the bed, Ryan freaks out and leaves Simone alone in the hotel shower, warning her not to freak out if she sees two ghosts "doin' it" on the bed.

    Mr. K saves the day

Needless to say, Simone is still upset about being left in the shower, and breaks up with Ryan in front of the group. Lauren advises Ryan to simply tell the truth during the group meeting, and he finally tells Simone what has been going on. Mr. K claims that he knows what's going on. He's "lucid," just an odd-ball. Mr. K explains that Ryan created Janie's ghost boyfriend because he feels guilty. He is imagining how Janie would feel, and what she would do, if she were still alive.

    Ryan and the goddesses

Ryan shows up to the goddess party, and sees the ghost of Janie standing off to the side. He begins speaking to a coat rack (the ghost of Janie). Janie (Ryan's own subconscious) finally gives Ryan permission to be with Simone. The couple make up, and are back together by the end of the episode.
