The Walking Dead nearly started off Season 2 on a very different note.
Instead of finding Rick (Andrew Lincoln) & Co. on the highway, the second season of the critically acclaimed AMC series almost picked up right after the explosion at the Centers for Disease Control — this according to showrunner Glen Mazzara, who dishes on the lost storyline on the show's upcoming Season 2 DVD and Blu-ray.
In a deleted scene from the Season 2 premiere, the group has already decided to find sanctuary at the nursing home in which the Vatos held Glenn (Steven Yeun) hostage in Season 1. However, upon their return, they come across a grisly scene. Not only is everyone dead, but they've been shot through the head execution style. This begs the question: Who was behind their murders? Could the producers have already been planting the seeds for the introduction The Governor (David Morrissey) in Season 3?
Watch the exclusive first look at the deleted scene from The Walking Dead: The Complete Second Season, which hits stores Tuesday, Aug. 28.
The third season of The Walking Dead premieres Sunday, Oct. 14 at 9/8c on AMC.
