Exclusive: Stephen Root Joins USA's Elmore Leonard Drama Pilot From Numb3rs Creators

The ever ubiquitous Stephen Root (Boardwalk Empire, The Good Wife, Justified, etc.) has joined the cast of USA Network’s untitled hour-long pilot from Numb3rs creators Nicolas Falacci and Cheryl Heuton, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The project, based on a short story from Elmore Leonard‘s anthology When The Women Come Out To Dance, centers on Billy, a Miami businessman (How to Make It In America‘s Bryan Greenberg) who, contemplating a run for political office, tries to increase his chances of being elected by marrying a Colombian woman (newcomer Stephanie Sigman). What starts as a marriage of convenience quickly escalates into much more as his new wife proves to be more resourceful at “fixing” any problem the corrupt South Miami political scene throws at her hubby.

Root will play Avery Boomer, a savvy political power broker, long-time Miami campaign manager, and family friend who decides to take on Billy’s political aspirations.

Additionally, Cotter Smith (Tru Calling, Person of Interest) is set to appear in the pilot in the guest star role of Pruitt, a wealthy U.S. senator and the father of Billy’s ex, Melody (Pretty Little Liars‘ Amanda Schull).
