'Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition' Season 3 Casting Begins in February

Celebrity Fitness Trainer Chris Powell from "Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition"

Fans of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition" are counting down to Season 2 slated to air in May 2012; some could even end up on the show for Season 3. The show's casting team will be hosting open casting calls in nine major cities throughout the month of February. They will be on the hunt for a fresh lineup of participants ready to make a commitment to their health and undergo a complete life transformation on the hit reality TV show.

In a recent interview, casting director D.J. Feldman says that the casting team is looking for, "People who are ready to make a change. For this show, ideally the participant needs to lose at least 50 percent of their body weight." Feldman says that a lot of people debate whether they should attend a casting call or not because weight loss is such as sensitive subject, but the casting directors are looking for unique stories in hopes of helping the participant.

"Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition" Season 3 Casting Calls

"Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition" casting calls will be taking place in nine cities across America throughout the month of February: Boston, Massachusetts; Detroit, Michigan; Los Angeles, California; New York, New York; Chicago, Illinois; San Diego, California; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Phoenix, Arizona. Most casting events run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The casting schedule is posted online here.

Those who cannot attend the casting call events at a major city can send in their application online. The online application includes some basic interview questions and the chance to upload a video. Feldman says, "Every single video is watched as long as it's received by the deadline posted on the casting website."

Chris Powell Prepares to Coach Season 3 Contestants

Celebrity trainer Chris Powell will once again be coaching and guiding participants through their weight loss transformation by moving into their homes and designing a customized workout program. Chris spends an entire year with the participants to ensure they are following the right nutrition program and exercising regularly. Through the show, Chris works to help those whose lives have simply become unmanageable because of their weight. The Season 2 preview gives us a glimpse of participants who had more than 200 pounds to lose. Before undergoing the Extreme Makeover challenge, one participant sobs while standing in front of the mirror, "This isn't me…this isn't who I am." She is one of the eight who shed the weight on the show.

In a recent interview, Powell talked about what participants go through. Chris says, "These amazing people have completely transformed. Oh yeah, they lost a lot of weight, too." Contestants leave the show physically, emotionally, and psychologically changed. Many are taking control of their lives for the very first time. Powell recently published the book, "Choose to Lose: The 7-Day Carb Cycle Solution" that encourages people to change their eating habits by eating more carbs and even adding "cheat meals" every other day to trick the body into losing weight.

Show fans and applicants can keep up with the show on the "Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition" Facebook Page.
