The Fabulous Guest Stars of 'Hot in Cleveland': First Season

Although Betty White and her co-stars are the ones largely responsible for the success of the TV Land series "Hot In Cleveland," tribute also needs to be paid to the guest stars that have graced the show, particularly in its first season. The following guests made the first season of this spectacularly funny show even more enjoyable.

    Carl Reiner

When it comes to the great figures of comedy, Carl Reiner stands above the rest. Known for his numerous humorous roles, Reiner brings his gigantic comedy talent to the series as Elka's boyfriend and fiancée. He is more than just funny, however, for he also shows a great deal of legitimate and sincere affection for the irascible Elka. As a result, we get to see a softer side of the curmudgeonly yet lovable older woman, as well as see the powerful affection that can often spring up between two older people.

    Wayne Knight

Wayne Knight certainly established a name for himself when he appeared as the villainous Newman in several episodes of the hit comedy "Seinfeld." He continues this trend, to an extent at least, in his portrayal of the sexed-up neighbor of Elka and her girls. However, there is still something distinctly lovable about this portly, middle-aged man, especially in his obvious affection for and loyalty to Elka (due in large part to a sexual encounter between the two of them years earlier). Just as importantly, he manages to keep that sense of comic timing that made his earlier appearances such a success.

    Susan Lucci

When it comes to venomous villains, no one can perform like Susan Lucci, who appears in this series as the enemy and competitor of Victoria. She continually manages to outwit the unfortunate Victoria, in addition to outshining her in practically every awards ceremony that happens on the show. And, she manages to do it all while remaining her true, Susan Lucci self. Indeed, her appearances on the show happen to be some of the funniest episodes, cementing her place as one of the best guest stars to have appeared on "Hot in Cleveland."

Clearly, one of the greatest strengths of this incredibly funny show is the presence of great guest stars. Although they cannot compete with the main cast, they do nevertheless manage to make a substantial impact. As the show continues to maintain its strong viewership, we can hope that they continue to draw in the big-name guest stars they have so far attracted.
