Rebecca Black of "Friday" fame is back with a new single called "Sing It." And while she struggles to overcome the stigma attached to her first YouTube video that caused such a sensation, she maintains a sense of humor and turns to her other passions to keep her going. In a recent exclusive interview she revealed five things her fans may not know about her.
1) She is Latina
The singer was born in Irvine, California, the daughter of John Jeffery Black and Georgina Marquez Kelly. She is of Mexican, Spanish, Italian, English and Polish descent. She stated, "A lot of people surprisingly don't know that I'm Latina... I'm very proud of being half Latina."
2) She Loves Adele and Katy Perry
It may not come as a surprise to Black's fans that she adores Katy Perry. The "I Kissed a Girl" singer has been a backer of Black's since the beginning, asking her to appear in her own video, doing live webstreams with her and even inviting her to sing a duet of "Friday" in one of her concerts. Black stated, "I've always been such a fan of hers. I've always looked up to her and how she's not like everyone else. She's got an edge to her that's really great and she's been so supportive."
But in addition to Perry, Black has another musical influence that may not be as obvious. She noted, "I really look up to Adele. I love the way she hasn't let the media phase her. And that voice! Beautiful!"
3) She Admires Her Little Brother
When asked who inspired her, Black replied that she admired her 12-year-old brother Chase. She stated, "I really look up to my brother even though he's a little brother. It's been hard for him because I don't get to spend time with him a lot and often he has to come to L.A. and sit through interviews. And I know he doesn't find it the most exciting, the most fun thing, but I really look up to him for being so strong and really being so supportive."
4) Her Hobby Is Photography
When she's not singing or cooking - another interest of hers - Black is taking pictures. She confessed, "I am so passionate about photography. I love photography. I just love how one picture can mean so much, how it creates a story. And I think it's amazing what people can do with cameras, and not even with effects, but just the creativity they have."
5) She Would Like to Be Audrey Hepburn
If given the opportunity to become one pop culture icon of all time for one day, Black had a surprising answer. "Audrey Hepburn. I love Audrey Hepburn. I just think she did so much good and she is so inspiring to me and she devoted so much of her life to helping people out. I've always loved her."
