Fans of "Modern Family" will see a familiar name when the credits roll on the May 11 episode. That is because Fred Savage is directing it. Most people remember Savage from "The Wonder Years." He played the main character in that show, a child named Kevin Arnold. Savage is no stranger behind the camera, and he could give "Modern Family" an extra bit of comic genius.Savage is most known today for direction shows in Nickelodeon and The Disney Channel. However, he has done his share of adult shows as well. He has direct multiple episodes of the extremely vulgar "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia," a show he also produces. He has also directed recent episodes of new shows like "Happy Endings" and "Perfect Couples." Combining Savage's eye with the talented cast of "Modern Family" should make for a hilarious episode. The episode will also feature Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, which should even more to the episode.
In the episode directed by Savage, Miranda will play a man who runs dog training business that isn't what it seems. His story will involve Jay and Gloria. Meanwhile, Phil and Claire switch parenting roles. That should be fun, because the last thing Phil is good at it is disciplining the kids. The other angle will involve Cameron and Mitchell, when Cameron gets the flu and is forced to stay in bed.
I have enjoyed the episodes of "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" directed by Savage. I think he has a great sense of how to handle the material that is offered in "Modern Family." For a show that has had some memorable guest stars, it will be great to see a high caliber guest director. Hopefully, he will be able to direct more episodes down the road. For now, fans can look forward to a high quality episode.
Another thing to watch out for in the May 11 episode is Lady Gaga. It is unclear if she is appearing, but the episode description reveals that Mitchell and Cameron have tickets to her concert. Could this mean that she will appear in the episode. Personally, I'm not fan of adding Lady Gaga to the show despite the long standing rumors that she may appear. Whatever the case may be, the episode should still be a riot. There are four more new episodes this season, with the first new one airing on May 4.
